Tech: Photo Sharing Websites and Linux

I am looking for some way of getting photos of my granddaughter to my daughter and the use of photo sharing websites such as Flickr or Picasa Web is one possibility.

Flickr were looking the better bet, but they seem to provide Windows tools for uploading though there do seem to be some third party Linux tools for uploading. Also it does seem possible to upload videos to Flickr but not to Picasa.

Picasa have a Linux version of their editor, but is that needed for uploading to their web facility or is it just a photo editor?

Another possibility for videos is You Tube and to set the file as private.

I am sure there are also other photo sharing websites has anyone any recommendations?

My computer is running Ubuntu Linux v.10.4

Overall I am looking for recommendations or suggestions.

Put the photographs in an envelope and mail them to your daughter. Real simple.

and a major issue these days is how to minimize the trouble & expense of photo printing.

I had considered that option but by sending her a USB stick rather than printing them. 1-2 GB USB sticks are pretty cheap these days.

However I wanted to explore the online option as Bill D said as this will be useful for the future and I can easily let other members of my family look as well. We are fairly well scattered round the UK and my brother lives in South Africa, so the online route will useful overall. It is also easy to let my son-in-law's family see them as well.
