Why is this in BS?

Do Orbital have anything to do with The Orb? I believe The Orb evolved from a group called Another Green World, with whom I played with at Glastonbury back in 1985 (??) in a very wet marquee, as they filtered my feral penny whistle & free-style balladry though various electronics.

Been enjoying the Matt Smith DWs mind...

That set me thinking about related Wholore. Remember this?

Jon Pertwee single - Who is the Doctor (1972)

And lest we forget:

Delia Ann Derbyshire 5 May 1937 - 3 July 2001

Now how about putting this above the line where it belongs?

Nope. The names sound similar but they're separate bands.
Don't know of a relationship between Orb and Another Green World? They're still going anyhoo:

As I've suggested here, Glastonbury should be primarily a folk-festival - pop and rock being aspects of American culture, and Glastonbury being within the borders of England.

Walkabout, this is just for you:

DON'T SHOULD ON ME © 1986 David Roth

Late last night before repose my sweetheart called to me
"Darling you should hurry, you should come to bed, I'm cold,
You shouldn't keep your baby waiting, you should be cooperating
You should learn to do the things you're told!"

Something in her tone of voice was somewhat less than kind
This person telling me the things I should or shouldn't do
A bell went off inside my head, I ran right up beside that bed
I said "Baby, YOU should learn a thing or two...

Like you should squeeze the toothpaste from the end, not from the top
You should pay attention to those prices when we shop
I think you should know better than to tell me things that I should do
Don't should on me and I won't should on you

And while we're on the subject here are certain other things my dear
You should be aware of I should think you shouldn't show
Little things but ones I'm sure you really should take care of
Like the way you think and everything you know..."

You should watch the way you eat, I think you're eating too much meat
I think that you should change the clothes you wear
You should change your TV channels, those polyester sheets to flannels
You should change the way you do your hair

I only want what's best for you, why ever won't you listen
I should know by now what you should put your emphasis in
We should both know better than to tell each other what to do
Don't should on me and I won't should on you

So nowadays we're understanding, now my baby's less demanding
No hard feelings, best regards, sincerely yours, it's true
And when we start to say "you should" we stop because it's understood
Don't should on me and I won't should on you

I guess it's only human nature, homo sapien nomenclature
Minding everybody else's business but your own
With "you should this" and "you should that", you know what I've been getting at
Sometime we should leave well enough alone

This song is almost over, I'm amazed that I got through it
I know it was a shouldy job, but someone had to do it
We should all know better than to tell each other what to do
Don't should on me and I won't should on you

Don't should on me and I won't should on you

You do have some funny ideas WAV! At what point do you think should Englanders aught to *freeze* our culture in isolated aspic suspension? Before the Vikings invaded, or afterwards?

Should authentic Englanders be allowed to wear cloth while singing, or should they be limited to a coating of blue woad?

"or should they be limited to a coating of blue woad?"

Only men under fifty should wear woad and enter trances while entering celtic visions, while the girls get cloth especially cut from some Lancashire weaving song.

What have Englanders to do have with woad? It was the British who were wearing woad long before the Englanders turned up on a booze cruise from Germany and lost their return tickets.

I wonder what the AGW / Orb connection was then?? Somewhere there exists a tape of the gig - drowned out no doubt by the rain hammering on the marquee! Actually, CS - at that very festival I remember these weekend hippy types singing Beatles songs all night near our tent so we started up with a very feral Go Into a Hare by way of friendly competition. One the girls got very upset - as well she might - screaming at us to stop spoiling the vibe. Definitely 1985, because I remember Fela Kuti being there the year before - that truly was a spectacle to behold...

There's a couple of clips on You Tube - of Fela at Glastonbury in 84:

I don't remember AGW, but they would have been moving in the same circuit.

Heh he!
Oh well, you can forgive her no doubt. She sold her soul to middle-management and now roams around Kent in outsize shades and a 4x4. Tragic tale, sigh...

Further to the above, I enjoyed some of the touring American musicians (Norah Jones, e.g.) at Glastonbury, and of course this should continue, BUT there should be a far bigger presence of English folkies performing at this English festival...2011 - mobilise to man and woman the barricades, with English flutes concertinas, etc., to hand..?!

1) I put it in BS when I started the thread because I wanted to share it, but I thought it too hard-core Techno for above the line.

2) SOP(Astray), Thanks for posting the Pertwee vid.

3) I just posted it because I thought it was a neat,
if a bit long, interpretation of the theme.

4) Some folks will argue over anything.
Well, it sounds like music to me, so I moved it up top. -Joe Offer-

This is a folk furum isn't it? And isn't hard-core Techno a living breathing traditional popular music? If that ain't folk (even by the precepts of 1954) I don't know what is! The Dr Who theme is a case in point - composed by Ron Grainer, immortalised by Delia Derbyshire and enshined as sacred lore in the hearts everyone who's ever heard it with countless variations thereof as a consequence - just check YouTube!

and its soo easy and tempting to pick up a mandolin
and mash & morph the main Dr Who riff
in and out of the similarly well cherished main theme from "Captain Pugwash"...
