We just had the British Queen and her partner over, for a few days here in Halifax, Nova Scotia. Stephen Harper came to see her (it seems odd, 'cause she just left fer Ottawa to celebrate Canada Day with most of Canada's silly servants.

Thankfully, they all left, 'cept the navy folk from many nations. So Haligonians can now have a big "Canada Day" party, navy style. Bring on the Captain Morgans.

When the British Queen was in Halifax, she said it was "like home" in her first speech. It kind'a brought a tear to the eyes of the royal-loving old folks.

Us, younger ones did not say anything, since she is getting a bit up in age. But, it was quite foggy that morning...and we suspect she had a flashback, getting it confused with her real home:)

Happy Canada Day!

I still refer to July 1st as Dominion Day! Getting old I guess!

To the Royal Newfoundland Regiment killed at the Battle of the Somme, many decades ago on July 1st;
At the going down of the sun and in the morning,
We will remember them.

"By the Grace of God, of the United Kingdom, Canada and her other Realms and Territories Queen, Head of the Commonwealth, Defender of the Faith."

"One of the strongest and most valued assets of the Crown is the stability and continuity it can bring from the past into the present. My mother once said that this country felt like a 'home away from home' for the Queen of Canada. Ladies and gentlemen, six decades later, it still does and it is good to be back."

Candada and water

"Canada has more lakes that the rest of the world combined"

With that in mind, a Nova Scotia lake song from Nova Scotian, Matt Mays:

I might watch Rick Mercer's "Talking To Americans."
Congratulations Canada on getting your first woody.
(He convinced people that that was the name of the five dollar coin).

Very befitting attire Beth has chosen eh? Red dress, white hat with large red rose.

Very UNbefitting second act... French (c)rap. Who in hell thought that was appropriate? A bunch of hollering from some silly-dressed... had to go watch Chris. A class act as usual. Phil looked pained and bored while Chris was speaking French. Surely Phil speaks French, non?

I wish I could come up with a good excuse to not paint anymore.

And Rock The Hill isn't on until 11:05 here. grrrrr

Watched the show as a patriotic red-blooded Canuck boy should have. And, now, the radar shows scattered showers in a few hours. So, no more painting. Laundry instead. My aching back is having a better Canada Day.

I like Canuck weather radar. You can play six frames over the last hour and see what's coming and when it's coming. Otherwise, I'd have to paint. >;-)

We perched on the fence across the front of Parliament Hill to see Her Majesty in her nice landau (bee-yootiful horses!) and then spent what felt like an hour struggling off the Hill through a crowd that had to measure 9.2 on the Richter scale.

That could be our last Canada Day on the Hill.

For over a week Sobey's (grocery) has been selling flower pots with red and white single impatiens. Every time we went by the display, Mum would stop and look them over and say, "Just beautiful." I know she was talking about more than the flowers.

Have a good day eh.

Nice day in Ottawa.

Wills & Kate were gracious and good-looking, the sun shone -- indeed, it's still shining -- and I have eaten way too many strawberries.

Fireworks tonight.

Good, eh?
