WYO WOMAN WOWS 'EM!

It's true! WW performed for our Summer Poetry & Music Series tonight and she had us rolling in the aisles, spellbound, roaring with laughter, heart-touched with love, and going away afterwards knowing that she is not only a damn fine singer, but also ranconteur (like there was any doubt!). She really knows how to keep it flowing and entertain, not just in a superfluous way, but on a deeper level of commitment to her craft and to her audience. I don't know about anyone else there, but she almost messed up my second-time-in-a-year makeup (remember the first time? My sister, bet, posted this Spring about Mom's garden in here and ruined my "new look" by making me cry!) when she told us the next song was one she'd done for friends of hers who, all but one, are still people living with aids, even several years after she performed it for their benefit in Santa Fe. Made me remember all those I knew who aren't.

There was a threat voiced that she could not be done without a yodel, so she did a beautiful rendition of Malvina Reynold's "Girl on the rim of the world" and let me tell you, it was a sweet, drawn out yodel!

Now.....just remember this: Don't ever, ever ask her to do the same thing twice!**BG** I'll let her explain! And, in case she messes with your mind, ask her to set it right with a rousing chorus about the "ID goes marching on" ala Freud!

You were really great, WW and I am proud that our writing wound up on the same page!

I would have expected nothing else. WW is quite the character here at the 'Cat and it would have surprised me if she wweren't the same in the flesh. My best and heartiest congrats to you WW and to my friend and littermate Kat who tells the tale so well. I'm happy the two of you live so close as to enjoy the "fruits" of Mudcat; good friends, good music, and much love.

Aw, C'spaw....you've got that right. When I went up tonight to say hi, she threw her arms around me and said she thought she knew me better than half the people who were there, all because of our time here at the Mudcat.

Now, Rick, you're gonna hate this, but WW will have to answer you. I know they are important, but unless Rog is along, I know nothing about mics, sorry.....I can't answer your question! Deal with it, sweetie:-)

Luvya'll,

kat

I had a lovely friend, professional sound guy, who donated his services at the last moment, so I don't have a clue what sound equipment I had, except that it sounded just fine. And he has a recording studio and we talked afterward about me making a CD and he knows musicians who'd love to participate.

But wehad many glasses of Mr. Jameson's finest while we talked, and what with the relief and the whiskey, I'm completely done in. I just wanted to say that it was a fine, wonderful moment, and I think it opened a door that I will be more than happy to step through now, and will have me doing more music than I had imagined possible in Casper, America, before. So, all in all, a most successful evening, and I'm honored Ms. Kat was there to cheer me on!

Thanks, WW

Congratulations, WW! Welcome to your second addiction! First, the Mudcat. Second, public performance! If you only knew what you've walked into.

Once, yes, once for a lark
Twice though, loses the spark
One must never deny it
But after you try it
You vary the diet ...
You've my highest regard
And I know that it's hard
But I never do anything twice ....

Except .....

No, I never do anything twice

Wyo, the way Kat described your performance has got me looking forward to that west coast debut, as well: Dave and PJ live just a few stops down the freeway from me, and a house concert followed by a Mudcat jam sounds like a great idea (hint-hint, Swannae). And Emily, where are you? (Dave and Pam, Fadac, Winters Wages, RiGGy Rackins, Mike Billo, and I are all in the SF Bay Area). --seed

I am so happy for you!!! It is a rush when you figure out that you can do this and people really enjoy hearing you do it. I get so much satisfaction out of performing. Welcome to the world of the performing artist. It don't pay much cash, but the satisfaction out of sharing your gift is enormous. Love ya, woman, keep it up. Can't wait to see you perform someday, and if I am lucky, sharing a song with you as well.

All the best,

Mick

Thanks, all. Actually, it's getting BACK to performing after a long absence, so I can't say I'm completely new to the stage. Just that I hadn't "come out" as a performer here in Casper. But, Baby, I'm OUT now...

OK, Left Coasters, my daughter has just informed me that she simply MUST move to San Francisco, so I might actually have an excuse to come visit y'all if she can carry it off. My son's in Seattle, so I will be out that direction in the fall. Who knows....???

(BTW: The Id goes Marching On had to do with a singalong version of "Glory, Glory Psychotherapy" that I did (see previous thread, which is where I got the words). It was a big hit, so in a way, the Mudcat was there with me in a fairly concrete way.

Also, as I was turning my pages, I happened upon the recipe for "Bengali Spinach" that I had copied off the "Ethnic Foods" thread, I think. I guess it had gotten in with the other printouts I had hole-punched, so I just slipped it in my music notebook... Cracked me up in the middle of the program, to turn the page and suddenly be faced with a recipe for Bengali Spinach!
