From: katlaughing TV has also paid my husband's wages and kept a roof over our heads for many, many years and, by way of the health insurance provided for by his employer, paid for my heart surgery making sure I could live a good while longer than it looked in 2004. Yes, a lot of it is crap, but there are also good shows if you aren't too prejudiced to look for them. The above sample is a stupid, not well done parody. I happen to enjoy Jeopardy and Wheel of Fortune at times. They're just trivia games much like the card game Trivial Pursuit. It's a lot better than all of the blood and guns violent popular shows AND prurient pseudo news shows shown during prime time when children are still awake. At least from J and WoF, kids can learn some fun stuff. Then there's PBS and all of the interesting things covered on the History channel, old treasures shown on Turner Classic Movies channel, etc. It's not all bad, nor is it all good. I reminded of this: There is so much bad in the best of us and so much good in the worst of us It hardly behooves any of us To talk about the rest of us! |

We're all so serious here all the time, and determined to fight with each other daily about one sort of politically volatile shit or another..."Oh, I'm so UPSET!!!" "What do you mean by that, you jerk?" "You'd know what I mean if you weren't such an idiot, wouldn't you?" "I make a point never to engage in a battle of wits with an unarmed opponent." Bla, bla, bla. But what are your views on the coming massive takeover of television by the primate entertainment lobby? Hmm? Is it a good thing? Or is it a bad thing? Will chimps actually make better TV shows than humans have in the past or will we see a sharp decline in both acting and directing? And the last most vital question of all: Do we even friggin' care? I know I don't. Chongo looks pretty spiffy in the leisure clothes, doesn't he? ;-) |

11 Jul 10 - 02:24 PM (#2943537) Subject: RE: BS: So y' thought TV couldn't get any worse? From: Little Hawk Ebbie, I can hardly overemphasize that the differences between Chongo and myself are legion. They cover almost every conceivable facet of personality and lifestyle. ;-) That's why I enjoy him so much as a character. He allows me to get completely away from myself. Chongo is under the impression that he knows a vast amount about women. Simply vast. (I don't know if he's right about that, but that's what he thinks.) Thinking that makes him happy and gives him a lot of confidence...and that's always advantageous in dealing with other people or other apes, right? So it probably helps him quite a bit, and even if it doesn't, he figures he's doing great and therefore enjoys himself. How can he possibly lose with a system like that? I know enough about women at this point, given past experience, to know that I'm probably considerably better off just having them as friends, not lovers, because it's a lot less complicated that way, and it's a lot easier on the nerves and basic sanity level. Besides, I like being alone most of the time, and I can't even sleep if someone else is lying in a bed next to me. Chongo can sleep through just about anything if he needs to. Does that help? ;-) |

I know the guy, and he ain't really an idiot. The thing I find sad is that the whole production was bein' run by people not by apes. Rank paternalism is what I call it. 11 Jul 10 - 08:07 PM (#2943682) Subject: RE: BS: So y' thought TV couldn't get any worse? From: Don Firth When I was working in radio back in the late 1960s and through the 1970s, I ran into an old-time announcer who would tell the occasional person who would call in and bitch about something, "If you look at your radio set, you will note that it has at least two controls. One changes the station and the other turns it off. If you don't like what you hear, I suggest that you use either one or the other." Same holds for television sets. My wife and I do watch a fair amount of television. Rarely commercial channels. We have two local PBS affiliates on which we can watch such programs as Masterpiece Classics, which recently aired several British film versions of Jane Austen's novels (Pride and Prejudice, Northanger Abbey, Emma, a couple of others), a few years ago, an excellent multi-episode dramatization of Charlotte Bronté's Jane Eyre, with Zelah Clarke as a very convincing Jane and Timothy Dalton as the brooding Mr. Rochester, Masterpiece Mystery (tonight's is a production of Agatha Christie's classic mystery, Murder on the Orient Express starring David Suchet as Belgian detective Hercule Poirot. Other well-crafted mysteries are Sherlock Holmes with Jeremy Brett and Inspector Morse with John Thaw. Excellent comedies such as As Time Goes By (Judi Dench, Geoffrey Palmer), comedy-dramas such as Doc Martin (idiosyncratic doctor—barfs at the sight of blood—with a lousy bedside manner, and his love-hate relationship with his various patients in a small town in Cornwall), and gritty police drama about four older police detectives assigned to solve old, unsolved or re-opened cases, called New Tricks. All well written and well acted. In non-fiction, PBS affiliates offer such things as Frontline (current events in depth), Nova (science and nature), Independent Lens (independent films and documentaries), and a lot more. Not to mention the excellent Ken Burns documentaries. In music, Command Performance, Live from the Met, Live from Lincoln Center. . . . Recently an unusual dramatization (modern dress version) of Hamlet, with Patrick Stewart (Capt. Jean-Luc Picard) as both Claudius and the ghost of Hamlet's father. There is also the Discovery Channel and the History Channel. It's very fashionable to poop on television. But most evenings, if you can't find something worth watching on the boob tube, you just ain't lookin'. Some evenings, you even have to make a choice. And of course you can always choose not to watch at all. Nobody's holding a gun to you head. Are they? If so, you have an entirely different problem. Don Firth |

This thread was created strictly for humorous purposes in regards to chimpanzees. It has nothing whatsoever to do with launching any kind of serious debate about the relative merits of TV...good or bad...and it was not intended to provoke another endless round of acrimonious arguing between various contentious people here on this forum. From: GUEST,Guest from Sanity Hey Bobert,..and anyone else whom this may concern, If you don't read or write music, let recording be your pen and paper...especially when playing with two guitarists. Sometimes, in spontaneity, you come off with some REALLY cool shit, but have no idea, just what the hell you did!...just play it back, and pick up from the last clam(mistake), and learn it by ear, from there! That goes for anyone else playing, too...sometimes you get a blend of strings and tones, that just comes off great. Its not just a one time thing..YOU CAN DO IT AGAIN!...and by the way, in case you've noticed, people will buy a whole album, for maybe one or two songs in it...and in those one or two songs, there might be just several seconds of great tones, that caught your ear!!! IT IS WORTH THE EFFORT!!!! Then after that, as my friend Mairead says, when asked, "How do you do all that, and play like you do?" She replies, so calmly, and matter of factly, " Practice, Practice, PRACTICE!" Mairead practicing With much practice...... Mairead performing the same song However.....she knows how to read music...(actually she has three Masters and a PhD. in it)...but nonetheless, Practice practice practice!!! Regards, GfS |

So, surprised, but pleased, he leads her to the settee in the breakfast nook and goes at it. When he's finished, she gets up and goes back to the stove. "Egg timer's busted," she explains. Ba-DAA. From: Mr Red I never thought TV couldn't get any worse. 1000 channels on one satellite system and I only use it when digital terrestrial is rained out - which also affects the satellite at times. Needles to say I don't subscribe to the scrambled channels. Mind you my other satellite system (analogue) is free on the one channel I want. But when re-scanning the terrestrial system I have to delete a load of non-interest and that is all pretty mindless crud IMNSHO. Big Brother's Little Brother? Not seen even 1 second of it but I can imagine that as "worse" getting "worser". |
