13 Jul 10 - 11:33 AM (#2944378) Subject: RE: Proposed Foots Cray Folk Day From: Girl Friday Crayford usually coincides with Deal Festival. I shall p m Growler to see if he's any plans for The G.I Bank Holiday weekend is out on two counts. Landlord is away, and there's Ash. |
13 Jul 10 - 11:51 AM (#2944384) Subject: RE: Proposed Foots Cray Folk Day From: GUEST,Woodsie August Bank Holiday sounds good we may even have some left-over weather. This ehas such a fantastic outdoor area with plenty of seats and a beatiful river running through it - I wouldn't worry about it clashing with events further afield as I'm not sure if they would have any impact on it! I can certainly drum up lots of support from Blackheath, Greenwich & Folkmob! |
13 Jul 10 - 12:05 PM (#2944392) Subject: RE: Proposed Foots Cray Folk Day From: Girl Friday We are already committed to playing at Ash that weekend. Also, Mick, the landlord of The Seven Stars is on ho0liday from 14th to 28th April. We're on holiday at Sidmouth prior to that. Any sooner is too short notice, isn't it? |
13 Jul 10 - 12:09 PM (#2944394) Subject: RE: Proposed Foots Cray Folk Day From: Girl Friday Waiting tohear from Growler, but have gone back in time on threads on which he posted. Seems 25th/26th September may be Good Intent. |
13 Jul 10 - 12:26 PM (#2944401) Subject: RE: Proposed Foots Cray Folk Day From: Rafflesbear Typo GF - as everyone will have assumed the landlord is away from 14 to 28 August - but someone had to spell it out!!! |

14 Jul 10 - 10:02 AM (#2944849) Subject: RE: Proposed Foots Cray Folk Day From: Rafflesbear Any news folks? - the tension's killing me ..... |
14 Jul 10 - 04:33 PM (#2945102) Subject: RE: Proposed Foots Cray Folk Day From: Girl Friday Bank Holiday's out if we want the landlord's help. I fear there might not be a barbecue without him. Now looking at 2nd or 3rd weekend in October |
14 Jul 10 - 05:16 PM (#2945126) Subject: RE: Proposed Foots Cray Folk Day From: Rafflesbear Fair play - he only gets back on Saturday, let's consolidate first and get it right when it 'appens |
15 Jul 10 - 03:36 AM (#2945346) Subject: RE: Proposed Foots Cray Folk Day From: Essex Girl You left out Knockholt, that's the 2nd weekend in September.1st weekend in October is Tenterden, but you should be OK with the 2nd weekend. |
15 Jul 10 - 05:48 AM (#2945410) Subject: RE: Proposed Foots Cray Folk Day From: Rob Naylor GF, I can't make bank holiday weekend but IF it's held on a weekend I can get there, I have 2 large half oil-drum barbecues with stands and a car big enough to get them in, once I can drive again. Happy to supply them, and operate them. We've fed 60+ on them without any problems. |
15 Jul 10 - 07:49 AM (#2945458) Subject: RE: Proposed Foots Cray Folk Day From: Girl Friday Thanks Rob - we'll bear that in mind. E G - I hadn't exactly considered Knockholt, but have discounted September anyway. Heard from Growler- it's his birthday so last weekend in September is definitely G I |
15 Jul 10 - 11:33 AM (#2945584) Subject: RE: Proposed Foots Cray Folk Day From: GUEST,woodsie Why so late in the year? It's only 15th July now - October isn't really a BBQ friendly month! What's wrong with late July / early August? |
15 Jul 10 - 11:51 AM (#2945595) Subject: RE: Proposed Foots Cray Folk Day From: Girl Friday Hi Woodsie. Not enough time to organise it. We want to do it properly. We are off to Sidmouth end of July to early August. Then it's Broadstairs. As has been mentioned several times, the landlord is on holiday, and we don't want to clash with other events, especially the ones that we are involved with. October can be smashing! |
15 Jul 10 - 11:59 AM (#2945598) Subject: RE: Proposed Foots Cray Folk Day From: Rafflesbear Hey Woodsie, I really enjoyed your contribution last week, hope you're coming back :-) However only three weeks ago we didn't know whether we had a group or not and now we are trying to run a festival!! - four weeks ago we were meeting in my front room with space to spare!!! I am as keen as anyone to have an event here and this Saturday would be fine with me but I think we need to consolidate our presence and show Mick the landlord that we want to be there for the long haul. A bit of patience and get it right is probably more important. In the meantime every Monday evening is festival time I think also it would be useful to assess where we stand in the North-West Kent folk scene. Are we London facing or are we Kent facing. Our roots have been in Kent but we may well be making the transition to being a South-East London venue in which case clashing with events like Faversham and Broadstairs could be far less relevant than clashing with Blackheath and Folkmob (Hi Essex Girl, might we see you next Monday?) |
15 Jul 10 - 12:25 PM (#2945620) Subject: RE: Proposed Foots Cray Folk Day From: Girl Friday I would like to see us , like Janus, with two heads. It is great to have the South East Londoners on board, but I have no objection, and should not want to discourage any folkie who wants to come along.I would agree about Faversham and Broadstairs, as T D L have never broken through there, but I believe strongly, that our many friends from The Medway, and Maidstone areas might come along occasionally, especially as we have got an ad in AKF. |
16 Jul 10 - 09:06 AM (#2946147) Subject: RE: Proposed Foots Cray Folk Day From: Rafflesbear Perhaps we could get a touring Morris side to call in some time - with the shoppers car park adjoining we could get a good turnout from the public |
16 Jul 10 - 11:12 AM (#2946196) Subject: RE: Proposed Foots Cray Folk Day From: Girl Friday I've been mulling that over myself, but where would they dance? Garden? |
16 Jul 10 - 11:23 AM (#2946208) Subject: RE: Proposed Foots Cray Folk Day From: Rafflesbear I would have thought the garden would be fine - otherwise there is the public area immediately across the road (see Google Street View), but I don't know how taking the drinks across the road would go down... |
17 Jul 10 - 02:55 AM (#2946561) Subject: RE: Proposed Foots Cray Folk Day From: Rafflesbear Checked out the spaces for Morris last night The public area across the road is ample but has the drawback of being separated from the pub The garden is in three parts with changes of level, neither the bit by the river nor the bit outside the pub doors give a big enough area, but there is a slightly raised portion between the two which might be just about suitable if cleared of the four or five picnic tables Perhaps an experienced morris dancer could have a look |
17 Jul 10 - 12:31 PM (#2946768) Subject: RE: Proposed Foots Cray Folk Day From: Girl Friday I have invited Gong Scourers to join in this thread... none so far. Anyone else ? |
17 Jul 10 - 05:16 PM (#2946883) Subject: RE: Proposed Foots Cray Folk Day From: Girl Friday Ok... looks like all go for 2nd weekend in October. Anyt preferences for Saturday or Sunday? |
17 Jul 10 - 06:02 PM (#2946896) Subject: RE: Proposed Foots Cray Folk Day From: Rafflesbear Saturday would possibly pick up punters from the shoppers car park if we want the general public to get interested |
18 Jul 10 - 03:18 PM (#2947217) Subject: RE: Proposed Foots Cray Folk Day From: Girl Friday Ok we'll tell Mick tomorrow - Saturday 9th October it is! If it's not barbecue weather - how about chilli and rice - meat or veggie? |
18 Jul 10 - 03:44 PM (#2947225) Subject: RE: Proposed Foots Cray Folk Day From: Rafflesbear Mick does a regular line in snacks, would probably be looking for an estimate of numbers - now there's a shot in the dark!! |
18 Jul 10 - 05:13 PM (#2947276) Subject: RE: Proposed Foots Cray Folk Day From: Girl Friday Woodsie said he got 75 turn up at a do the other day. I reckon if we give Mick a conservative estimate, it'll have to be first come, first served. Let's firm up the date with him and then I'll start a new thread where folk can register their interest. |
18 Jul 10 - 05:58 PM (#2947302) Subject: RE: Proposed Foots Cray Folk Day From: Rafflesbear 75!! I'm impressed Mick can always pop across to Lidl if he runs out of anything!! |
