Finally, the finals got going.

I haven't watched speedway for a long time, since I used to go and watch Wacker Hunt, Graham Warren, Ron Moutford for the Brummies back in the fifties, but I am so glad I did.
It was so exciting and some excellent riding.

Well done Poland.

Any other speedway lovers out there?

Ohhhh... flat track. But, those pussies have mudflaps. And there's only 4 to a race. Not very dangerous at all.

>;-)

LOL

Well I remember my hero in speedway, being killed in one of the races. As you say, not very dangerous :-)

I used to love the noise and smell of the cinders.

Each race, whoever wins gets 3 points towards the team total, 2 for second and 1 for third. Bugger all for last.

Here, there is a similar sport on ice. Hexagonal screws in the tires. And a rider sits on the rear fender. Rough ass ride.

Yep I have seen that. Pretty similar.

I used to watch Halifax Dukes at the Shay when I wuz a kid. The first time I went, I made the mistake of standing at a corner where there seemed to be plenty of standing room - and ended up getting splattered with mud and cinders! Eric Boocock was king back then. The Shay was of course the home of Halifax Town Football Club, but no problem as the pitch corners were simply taken out for the speedway and relaid for the footie.

Didn't Eric Boocock ride for the Brummies?

Arthur - just checked on Wikipedia in case my memory was playing tricks on me - here's Eric's entry;

'Eric started his career with the Middlesbrough Bears in 1961 and stayed there until the promotion closed in 1964. The promoter, Reg Fearman opened up a speedway track at The Shay in Halifax and moved his Middlesbrough riders there, to form the Halifax Dukes. Eric spent his entire career with the Dukes, winning the British League and the KO Cup in 1966.'

Nice to know I'm not going gaga just yet. However, I have a feeling that Eric had a brother, so I'll have a look into that.

Arnie
It's me. I am thinking of Eric Boothroyd who rode for the Brummies in the 50's. :-)
