05 Aug 10 - 08:47 PM (#2959161) Subject: RE: BS: Bong Hits for Charlie Rangel... From: Q (Frank Staplin) Que 'bong hit'? There's a thread current which defines 'bong' in England. Has that word entered slang in America too? But yes, I don't understand the attacks by Dems, unless they want to replace him on the committee. Why, I dunno. |

I don't that anyone outside of the USA understands the mud sling fest that is called "Committee Selection Process"... |

05 Aug 10 - 09:31 PM (#2959185) Subject: RE: BS: Bong Hits for Charlie Rangel... From: Bobert First of all, a bong is a water pipe used for smokin' pot... Second, Charlie Rangel is one of the good guys... Given the current system, that is... Kinda corrupted and bought out... Especially the Repubs but lots of Dems, too... B~ |

05 Aug 10 - 09:42 PM (#2959189) Subject: RE: BS: Bong Hits for Charlie Rangel... From: Q (Frank Staplin) Rangel had already stepped down in March from the Ways and Means Committee. I had forgotten that. The four Republicans on the House Ethics Committee seem intent on a trial, which would damage Democratic chances in the next Congressional election. |

05 Aug 10 - 10:27 PM (#2959210) Subject: RE: BS: Bong Hits for Charlie Rangel... From: Bill D I have always assumed that Rangel was s-t-r-e-t-c-h-i-n-g the rules. I'd love to be proven wrong. I hate to see ANY loyal Democrat get in trouble, but IF Charlie did, we gotta deal with it. (No, I am NOT 'pronouncing' him guilty, I just never cared for his attitude and approach.)(and he took over many years ago from Adam Clayton Powell.... it always worried me that Powell's legacy might have been passed on...) In any case, I fail to see why offering Charlie 'bong hits' would help him... ☻... can't we just wish him good luck? |

06 Aug 10 - 01:21 AM (#2959257) Subject: RE: BS: Bong Hits for Charlie Rangel... From: GUEST,Songbob Well, Charlie Rangel is the one who replaced Adam Clayton Powell, as it happens (at least I think so). His 'sins' are small potatoes, but not totally made-up. The committee seems to have offered him censure, which is below removal from office on the Congressional scale of punishments. As you say, not up there with that Ensign clown. It's interesting that John Boehner seems to 'handle' Republican miscreants 'privately,' while Democrats go to the ethics committee, where the five Republican members insist on lots of publicity, and at least one Democrat goes along with it. No, it is a suped up water pipe designed to deliver maximum stone with far less dope. I had, ah, saw one back in the 70s and it was very economical. As were hot knives. Until someone drinking alcohol lit the funnel up and then economy was secondary. Once again... I have not smoked dope for I don't know how many years. |
