OK the page is fairly stable and ready for a bit of comment. what it sets out to do is inspect 4 of my pages and generate a subset of the data based on geographical proximity. The epi-centre/focus can be chosen by town/village from a list which is culled from the same pages. Those pages can be displayed individually. The distance info can be replace with post code or grid references (2 styles). I may extend the scope (eg Radio Stations) and chronological info is penciled in but I am having difficulty with alternate weeks and finding a reliable datum for each one (was it ever thus?). So - is it fairly easy to understand? are there any browsers that make it go wrong (eg Opera 10.5x) have I wasted a month of my life trying to script it? do bears poop........................ |

This was intended for people to copy to the address bar and re-do, so that the specific epi-centre info can be saved as a "favourite". If anyone knows how to script that so it automatically writes to favourites I can incorporate it. Just the JavaScript (client-side) clues are enough. TIA. |

30 Sep 10 - 12:04 PM (#2996882) Subject: RE: cresby.com new web page needs feedback. From: Mr Red I just used it (in anger) on FF 3.6.9 portable (and previous updates) albeit on a remote WinXP not sure what that problem is - it does evolve so try again. Other tests regularly include Mozilla 1.7.8, IE 5.5, FF 2 . IE 8 does not fault it. Chrome seems OK with it. Opera has some issues on other pages. One thing I have noticed is that some PC's are not set up to refresh so it may be a mix of pages and JavaScript files being out of date/sync. Indeed my local library uses a remote OS (for security) and the caching is done at the central server (UK gov snooping refers) and that has to be refreshed manually because I update almost every day on one page or another. So to be sure: try again and use the refresh button once thereafter. There is a new update due this week to highlight how soon a given venue might be (from today to next week). Alt weeks are a logistic problem - I have the solution but not necessarily the data. FWIW I am toying with the idea of auto-refresh if the local instance (on your PC) is a week old (say) for all my pages. Not a trivial undertaking when you consider the potential for things to be overlooked. |
