Saturday, 21 Aug is a busy day. Peadar (Once of Portsmouth and Laurette are having a house warming for their new abode and Sinsull is presenting Bob Zentz in House Concert.

So as to allow participation in more than one event, the session, for this week only, will run from 3:30 to 5:00 PM.

Please advise any non-Mudcatters you know of this change.

Thanks - Tom

For this MONTH only!

I almost had to work that day (and not have to work Sunday as I normally do) which might actually have made it easier to go to the Bob Zentz house concert, but I'll be able to go to the session and then we'll head to Portland. I just have to leave Sunday morning in time to go to work.

This schedule works for us as well. Alison Freeman is having a major birthday party and we were planning to leave at 5 to scuttle back to Georgetown.

We'll be off to the UK August 31 and will be missing the September session. So we didn't want to miss this one as well.

Please be sure to invite anyone who attends the shanty sing. I should still have a bed or two available.

I tried to add a comment to my Facebook post about the abbreviated shanty session, but last night FB wouldn't let me comment on ANYthing...

Linn-

I still haven't figured out where things will hang when I post to Facebook. But hang they do, somewhere...

Well, I'm glad there was a shanty session yesterday, even if it was a short one. We are going to miss the September session, while we're away on our tour of the UK.

There were only about 10 people leading songs last evening but everyone did a great job. And when Tom and Linn, and Judy and I, had to leave for our various other commitments, people were still singing.

I got to try out a new C. Fox Smith songs I've been learning called "The Jolly Bargeman," along with two other Smith based songs "Outward Bound" and "Rosario."

There was a nice run of songs on the theme of sailors leaving their loved ones or being left by their loved ones. And the fluttering of doves in the crows nests, the lily white breasts, and the ghostly apparitions of recently drowned loves are images still etched in my mind.

Marty Stock reported at Facebook that the abbreviated and culled down session of song trading (and tourist entertaining) continued until the usual shut down time. Singers were Tyler Buck, Marty, Chris Maden and Reagh Greenleaf.

From Marty (hope he doesn't mind me reposting it here): "A foreshortened Portsmouth Shanty Session yesterday: most people left early to go to other events. The session dwindled after 5:30 to just Tyler Buck and three of us guys, Reagh Greenleaf, Chris Maden, and me. The last hour, we were the Portsmouth Voice Squad, rotating lead and good harmony for surprised and appreciative Press Room dinner patrons, and applause from the bar."

It was a day of too much fun...too many great events were going on. Tom and I squeezed in as much as we could -- Press Room session and then the musical evening at Sinsull's planned around the Bob Zentz and Jeanne McDougle house concert.

Great to hear that Marty and gang kept the session rolling along. And nice to get the names of the new folks attending. There was another fellow who plays with an Irish group who was also in attendance who was new to me.
