If 80% of Icelanders are against joining the EU, you won't need guns or anything like that to avoid joining. There'd have to be a vote in favour of coming in in order to be allowe3d in. Probably a referendum - possibly a vote in parliament, as when the UK joined the then Common Market. |

It wouldn't be allowed in by the other member states. |

They just had a vote in parliament. I doubt if that would be seen as adequate now for a new candidate for membership. In any case I find it hard to envisage a parliament pushing ahead against the wishes of 80% of its electors. And in those circumstances it is virtually certain the next election would just see Iceland opt out of the EU - which is why the other member states wouldn't allow it in on in those circumstances. |
