Jack Lawrence in Old Blighty

Mr. Jack Lawrence, with whom I have closed a few bars following Doc Watson concerts I've attended, mentioned on the Flatpick-L list that he's just leaving on a British tour. Schedule here.

Jack is a fine traditional country singer and one of the very top rank of flatpicking guitarists. He would be a lot better known except that he spent the late eighties through the early aughts touring with, and supporting, Doc, rather than promoting himself in his own right.

I would urge catching him if any of the gigs listed in the link work for you.

Peter

By all means try to see Jack Lawrence if you have a chance.

He is a truly fine guitar player and can also song. If you like Folk, Bluegrass, New Acoustic, fiddle tunes of just plain Country Music, he does all of those.

With only one solo CD in 20 years, he obviously does not plan to be a big star. He has not do a good job of selling himself to the public like his friend Jerry Douglas has done.

Well done for putting this thread up, Peter.

I logged on to do the very same thing, but you beat me to it.

IIRC we were both at the same Doc Watson concert in Burlington VT back in 1999 or 98 when I first saw Jack play. A truly amazing guitar player, and I hope he manages to fit in an appearance further north than his current UK schedule indicates.

The tour lasts 3 1/2 weeks, so there is every possibility.

In the meantime, if you live anywhere near any of the venues he is playing at , GO SEE HIM !
