This year, the dates of the camp are December 28, 2010 to January 2, 2011. Click here for more information. Camp New Harmony meets at Camp Newman near Santa Rosa, California. Camp Harmony used to meet at Camp Harmon near Santa Cruz. Aren't we clever with our name choices? Camp New Harmony is very similar to the Getaway of the Folklore Society of Greater Washington, except that Harmony is more relaxed because we run 6 days. We have a number of annual rituals that are quite popular, most notably the John Barleycorn Christmas Ale tasting session, followed by rowdy and raucous Pub Songs and Sea Songs. This always seems to happen on Shabbat, and the more religious of us skip the beer songs and share Shabbat songs (and Challa and wine) from various traditions. It's a very enjoyable gathering, a good way to get rid of your post-Christmas depression. -Joe- |

We spent most of the day gathering together all the stuff we need to bring to make our stay as pleasurable and comfortable as possible. Tomorrow we'll pack it into the car (assuming it all fits). Got our bottle of ale for the ale tasting, our New Year's Eve table setting, three bottles of wine, our instruments, umbrellas, flashlights and our long underwear. We're bringing some new (to us) songs including a couple we wrote this year. Can't wait to see you and the 300 or so others who will be there. Bev and Jerry |
