22 Aug 99 - 11:25 AM (#107425) Subject: Heaven's Radio From: Chris Seymour We are looking for an old timey tune called "Heaven's Radio" - not to be confused with "Turn Your Radio On." The chorus goes: Heaven's Radio/On the Other Shore Where our Precious Savior always listens in It's the same old radio/They used a long time ago Our Precious Savior always listens in. Anyone know of a recording? And/or words and music? Thanks. Chirs |

Someone suggested once that this had been recorded by the Blue Sky Boys... |

23 Aug 99 - 04:49 PM (#107784) Subject: RE: Heaven's Radio From: jen I have a great collection which includes "Heaven's Radio". It is called "Roots n' Blues - the Retrospective", a collection of 4 cds on Columbia/Legacy c4k 47911. It is on the 4th disk 1925-50 and is recorded by Molly O'Day and the Cumberland Mountain Folks. Hope this helps. |
23 Aug 99 - 06:34 PM (#107805) Subject: Lyr Add: HEAVEN'S RADIO (Carter Family) From: Tiger Here it is from "Great Original Recordings by the Carter Family". Written by A.P., recorded in 1935 or '40, not sure. ......Tiger HEAVEN'S RADIO- Carter Family
There's a wonderful invention that's called the radio,
Heaven's radio, on the other shore, For my Precious Savior always listens in. It's the same old radio, That was used so long ago, For my Precious Savior always listens in.
Daniel in the lion's den, with his prayers did surely win,
Well, he set the Hebrews three, from the fiery furnace free.

23 Aug 99 - 09:47 PM (#107852) Subject: RE: Heaven's Radio From: Chris Seymour Thanks, Tiger -- that's it. Wonderfull -- I once bothered Joe Hickerson at the Library of Congress to see if he knew where to find this song. Mudcat, with the collective knowledge (and record collections) of so many of us is just great. My mom (who's also been looking for this song for years) is also very pleased. ' Jen, I'm curious -- is the Molly O'Day and the Cumberland Mountain Folks version the same as the one Tiger quotes? Do they credit AP Carter? Thanks again, Chris |

24 Aug 99 - 02:05 PM (#108081) Subject: RE: Heaven's Radio From: Jen The lyrics are the same as my version. They do indeed credit A.P. Carter. It was arranged by Lynn Davis. I haven't heard any other versions, but I highly recommend this collection for some great lesser known blues, folk and bluegrass tunes! |
05 Sep 04 - 12:22 PM (#1264746) Subject: ADD: Heaven's Radio From: wysiwyg There's a downloadable sound file of this by Molly O'Day at Recordlady site. Requests page 11 or 12 I think. Sounds quite Louvinesque. New verse. ~S~ ============================================================== HEAVEN'S RADIO Molly O'Day version There's a wonderful invention they call the radio; You can hear it anywhere you chance to go. But the static in the air sometimes makes it hard to hear, But it's not so with Heaven's radio. CHORUS Heaven's radio, on the other shore, For my Precious Savior always listens in. It's the same old radio that was used long time ago, For my Precious Savior always listens in. Daniel in the lion's den, with his prayers did surely win, For my Precious Savior always listens in. And I know without a doubt, honest prayers will bring you out, For my Precious Savior always listens in. Just to lean on Jesus' breast there is blessed peace and rest, And the comfort that's provided by His Word. If the blessings don't come in, get on your knees and dial again! And soon the voice of Jesus will be heard. SH @country @gospel |
