Philadelphia Festival

I go every year to this admittedly overgrown festival; I grew up in Philadelphia and love the Philly Fest despite its many shortcomings. Any 'catters going this year?

Chris,

I have not been in years. Things like marriage and having children put the kabosh on that. Does it still rain every year? I have some truly fond memories of the Philly Folk Fest, rain or dry. First heard Loudon Wainwright III do "Dead Skunk" there. Also saw John Prine so drunk on stage he nearly fell down trying to swat a fly. I think he's sobered up quite a bit. Tons and tons of great music every where you turn. Methinks I may be too old for such and immersion experience out in the sun.

If you see my friend, Will, tell him I said, "Hi". he never misses the Philly Festival.

I won't be going, and I'm a member of PFSS.
Too expensive.
Not enough attention payed to the talent that exists within their own memebership.

Bert.

I knew a lady from Philly...she lived here in DC a couple years and liked the singing and such...so she went home and joined PFSS...and wrote a year later in frustration...said they spent 9 months planning the festival, two months re-hashing it...a month off...and never did get around to singing much...

I grew up in Schwenksville and lived in Spring Mount. It used to be a blast to go every year. We kinda felt like we owned the joint, working there in June & July to build the stages and put the fences up. Thought about taking the kids but don't really have the desire. It doesn't seem the same without Bromberg, Arlo, Pegleg sam and others.

I'll be there as much as I can. Perk of the Mudcat, got me a freebe for the whole weekend. Gonna miss Friday and part of Saturday for sure. Gonna go see Penn State(alum) beat up on Arizona Saturday.

Went a couple of years ago and was kind of turned off at the size and scope of the whole thing. Wouldn't be going if it weren't for the comp and Doc Watson. Maybe see ya there.

Help,

I am subverting this thread for some assistance. For some reason I can't get the Cat to post a new thread from me. (An aside, Its not as obvious as to how to do it in the new and improved form) I also cant get into personal pages. It doesn't recognize me as a member no matter how often I try or feed it my personal information.

Am I doing something wrong here?

Don

BTW, years back The Philly Fest was always on my local PBS affiliate. First place I ever heard Steve Goodman, John Prine, Rosalie Sorrels, Frankie Armstrong, Martin Carthy, an endless list. I wish we still got on the tube.
