From: artbrooks My experience with e-tickets for events has basically involved standing in a line clutching my e-ticket to redeem it for a "real" ticket, then standing in the other line for admission to the event. The e-ticket line is often longer than the last-minute, pay cash admission line. In these circumstances, it is vastly preferable to get a ticket in the mail. |

In some places you just walk up to a machine and punch in and they have all your data, and print your boarding pass, in seconds. I like solid paper tickets for their tactile reassuring weight, but I can live with faster service instead! A |

From: GUEST I note the OP was talking about festivals/events etc rather than plane tickets but obviously plane travel is important for subsequent posters. I have had experience of having an e-ticket for a flight, printing out a boarding pass and then waiting in a queue like a football match to "fastcheck" my luggage while there was a steady, fast-moving trickle at the old-fashioned ticket desk where people were handing in their hard copy tickets, getting their boarding passes, checking in their luggage and going on their merry way! Sometimes with gigs I like to have the physical ticket so I can go get it signed. Whereas for a Festival e-ticket is better as you re-deem it for a wristband anyway. |

(minus) The ticket takes longer to process as it has to be cross checked against the list from the sales company (plus) Allows a small venue to take credit card bookings (plus) Saves the organiser from evenings enveloping and mailing hard tickets (minus?) Customer gets stung with a booking fee. A plus for the organiser as they don't pay credit card handling charges or agency fee. (plus) Bookings can be made far closer to the event (minus) Some people won't use cards on line so some advance bookings may be lost If the banks get their way and abolish cheques then promoters will be forced into more use of ebooking agencies. Personally I can't say that I am bothered either way. |

However, here is the big however, Delta now hold back seating to the tune of 20% forcing the ticket counter to issue the seat. That is I go online print my boarding pass and yup, it comes up with "seat request" which mean I have to go to the counter anyway to get my seat confirmed. Completely negates what the eticket was suppose to be. Now this seems to only happen when I don't check a bag and pay their stupid 25 buck fee and only have my carry on. If I check my bag .. yup get my seat .. so it depends on the carrier anymore. |
