Hi George

You forgot to mention the prizes for the raffle. 2nd prize is a one week holiday in Bray. 1st prize is a weekend in Bray. Boom, Boom. (the old ones are the best).

I'll try to get there.

Fergus

Oh BTW do you know that yourself and Fowler got an 'honourable mention' in the Frank Harte Festival thread.

Hope to see you, Fergus, refreshed from the West?

Would you have the stamina to also pop in to the new monthly session starting in MacTurcaill's, Townsend Street from 6 to 9.30 this Sunday? Any support you can muster would really be appreciated. Go raibh maith agat!

Al

Please try to remember this is an international site, so it is nice to know what country/region you are talking abut, even if some of us can't make it there.:-)

Thanks,

to Kat,
The Bray in question is in County Wicklow, Republic of Ireland, not to be confused with the Bray where the famous Vicar came from. It is quiet close to Dublin, in fact the name derives from the noise a donkey makes, as it is within an Asse's roar of Dublin. Bray was in County Dublin at one stage, but some yahoo from Wicklow won it in a raffle at a singers session many years ago. The Bray Singers Club should be confused with the North Wicklow Singers Circle mentioned in previous threads, as it is the same. It just went thru the folk process. The change in name was made to draw those old Dublin singers who think Bray is still in Dublin.
Some years ago, when the country was awash with money, in what we called the "Celtic Tiger", messers Henderson and Stout suggested a motorway be built from Tallaght to Bray. They could foresee years ago that singers in Knocklyon could use this motorway to get to Bray in 14minutes and 27 seconds for a singing session. So if you live in Knocklyon, dublin 16, get in touch and join the driving roster with meself, Mick and the Mot

LO< I wish! I'd join you in a heart beat. Thanks for the delightful geography lesson.:-) I am assuming one does not need to know how to bray to join in the singing?

Kat: Knowing how to bray is not necessary, but braying IS acceptable in laughter or in the context of a song. 'Anything goes' in Bray - "from Sean Nós (pron. shan knowss - the old, traditional way)to Sinatra!" (Or Bennett, if you prefer.) Believe me, we've heard that range and beyond at our sessions.

Part of the delight, for me anyway, is not knowing what to expect - except the unexpected. There are always new 'gems' to go along with the sheer joy of people just enjoying themselves in good, clean fun. Actually, it's regularly not that clean, but that's ok too...

Hoping to replicate that in MacTurcaill's, starting this Sunday (see Thread: New singing session - Dublin City Centre).

If you know any local singers, or listeners, they'd be made very welcome at either session. And there are lots of other sessions throughout this fair island.

Al

I swear that the DART public transit ride through Bray, is the most scenic rail trip I've ever taken. I took the trip at sunset, and the panoramic view of the Irish Sea was wonderful.
I hope to make it back to Ireland next August. It would be nice to make it to the song session at Bray.

My life is full of typos. All I have to do is to read what I have typed before I press the submit button but I am always in a hurry.

I think Joe will have got the jist though.
