In addition to the musical guest artist, each show the house band plays a mix of bluegrass, jazz, blues, folk, and sometimes something really unexpected. We perform the show in the style of the old radio format in front of a live theater audience with a broadcast on WPKN. The show takes place in Edmond Town Hall in Newtown, Connecticut. This charming 1920's theater seats 535 people and is the perfect setting for this homegrown Americana variety show. Our November 6th guest will be Tom Chapin. February 5th will be Peter Yarrow's daughter Bethany with special guests (hmm?) and March 19th will be Christine Lavin. December 4th and May 21st will be announced shortly. Hope to see you there!! I saw him in Cleveland last night and it was great. At 79 Jack still had the stamina to deliver 2 solid hours of exceptional folk songs, solo, accompanying himself on his trusty old Martin guitar. Between songs he regaled us with stories about people he's known like Gene Autry and Woody and he even mention Mudcat frequenter Frank Hamilton as having taught him the song he was about to play. I won't say his voice didn't crack once or twice but as my friend Terry said, that just added authenticity, and authentic is the perfect adjective for the evening. Authentic American Folk being presented by an authentic folk music legend, eloquently. |
