From: Bobert Well, seems that the looniest of the loonies are the only folks showin' up to vote in the Repub primaries so we're gonna have a boatload Tea Party folks on the ballots in Novemeber so... ...let's say that a few get elected and inspire others in 2012 and the Dems and traditional Repubs just get frrstrated with the entire political process and scared of being shot by a Tealiban supporter and... ...the Tea Party takes over running the country... What will that country be like??? B~ |

16 Sep 10 - 01:44 PM (#2988097) Subject: RE: BS: What would a Tea Party admin. be like??? From: Amos I don't think the Nazi comparison would describe it; the notions I have seen being floated include eliminating all kinds of Federal programs like social security, health care, labor laws, banking industry regulations. It would be a hey-day for those who prefer the old-style, Katy-bar-the-door industrialism, and let the pollution fall where it may. In their world the justification for paying people adequately (as demonstrated by Ford Sr.) is that it enables them to become a profitable buying public. The parallel that comes to mind is the American economy of, say, 1900-1930 or so--robber barons, a huge division between wealthy and poor, and serious pockets of crime-ridden poverty, slums and hobo camps. Business above all else. Gun-toting characters of any stripe. One difference will be that in the modern age of CRM, databases and internetworking, you won't be able to disappear as easily; they'll know what your name was back in the States, as the song says, and why you moved. It might also bring about an upsurge in entrepreneurial efforts by young people, which will have some benefits that will off-set the lost protections of an emasculated Federal government. Not enough to avoid some serious social ills, though. A |

From: Bee-dubya-ell I don't think the entire federal government would be emasculated, only the departments having to do with unnecessary things like education, health care, the environment, and consumer protection. The departments having to do with waging war, "protecting" borders, and spying on its own citizens would have bigger balls than ever. |

Hmmmmmmm??? Which is it, ya'll??? More gov 'er less??? (Depends, Bobert... Less gov for the crooks and more gov for the average workin' class shmo...) And excatly what kinda gov do you call that??? These are people who want to "get big government off our backs," but I'll betcha that there would be very heavy funding for all aspects of law enforcement - other than business regulation. The Mexican border would be more heavily fortified than the Berlin Wall, but factory and farm raids on illegal employees would be prohibited. -Joe- |

16 Sep 10 - 10:39 PM (#2988414) Subject: RE: BS: What would a Tea Party admin. be like??? From: katlaughing Well, suprisingly, I heard a bit of a repartee between a tea party woman spokesperson and a male While I know there is much to them I could not abide, I found myself glad to hear someone refuse to be dragged into those divisive issues in a firm and non-reactive way. She really was good at staying on point. Here's a bit about it from npr: That's the debate playing out inside some quarters of the Tea Party movement and it was in evidence on Morning Edition during a discussion co-host Steve Inskeep had with Toby Marie Walker, lead facilitator for the Waco Tea Party, and Bryan Fischer of the American Family Association. There's more of the debate HERE. Personally, I hope they keep it up, the infighting can only help keep the GOP out of a majority in Congress. I noticed a new poll by the NYT/NBC shows Palin losing the public in droves AND she has really low numbers of anyone who thinks she could run the country. Made em glad to read that! |
