Hi my band Rósin Okkar , are thinking of applying for some festivals ,
were we will play old Icelandic folk music from 1700 to 1900 something
old rimes and stemmur along with other Icelandic folk music,
So what festival should we apply to ? we have never done this before
so we are new on that market , but what we are doing is worth to listening to , we are making good music out of those old rimes ,
in the old days people did sing this with out an instrument .
so we are taking this rimes to a new level , if some one is interesting
to get recording of a rime like we do it send me you r e-mail
on PM , and I ´ll send it along ....if that could help finding
festival for us ....Now I have no idea where to look there are so many
of them ....I already applyed for G-festival in Foreyjar Island.

So if you have any idea , please post it here

all the best Skarpi Iceland .P.s we are on you tupe " don´t get married " is the song to look for and Rosin Okkar , also in Icelandic
" Rosin Okkar í Reykjavík is also on youtupe and more is coming .
then we are on www.myspace,com/rosinokkar

Hi Skarpi

The music sounds interesting, we have some small community festivals down here in South west Ireland, unfortunatley they are just community events, and we don't have a budget to book anyone. But if you are coming to Ireland drop us a line and let's know. It would be nice to meet you.

Here is the program for this years 'Music in the Mountains' festival
We also have one in March at Glengarriff west Cork, the weekend after St Patrick's day. It's all just for fun, but we have a great time.

Good luck with the music

All the best

There is a record label in Minnesota
where many immigrants from Scandinavia and Nordic countries landed.
North Side Records presents a Nordic Music Fest each fall.

see www.noside.com

they are also associated with these record labels
http://www.e-s-d.com/index.html East Side digital

http://www.omniumrecords.com/index.html

the festival may feature artists who record on their label..
so maybe the first step is to do a recording with them??

you may want to search for festivals which focus on
Nordic/Scadinavian music such as : (see nordic music festival)
www.nisswastamman.org/

Ask Bruce Sagan, who i introduced you to..
he has started a list on the internet
for Scandinavian topics...groups.yahoo.com/group/scand/

or look for World music festivals, ones which feature music
from all ethnic backgrounds...such as:
www.worldfest.net
http://www.sfworldmusicfestival.org/
or this one going on this weekend...connected with a university
http://www.chicoperformances.com/
http://www.csuchico.edu/upe/performance/cwmf.html
the organizer of this event is Dan Dewayne, and he has
booked a Swedish group that I have recommended/requested.
You might ask him for advice...his e-mail address is listed
in the Chico State University site..www.chicoperformances.com.

good luck and let us know if you get hired!

There's a festival in upstate New York (U. S.) called Old Songs that's worth a try. I don't believe they've ever had anyone from Iceland, but why not! They can be reached at oldongs@oldsongs.org

You should be aware that you may need to obtain a special visa for this. The UK has special categories for this - I am no expert but I believe there are different requirements depending on whether or not you will be paid. Professional performers have to be sponsored for the duration of their stay - this is causing considerable difficulties and some performances have had to be cancelled.

Top artists battle visa clampdown

If you are booked to appear at a festival professionally then the promoter or agency should be able to help you with this. But even if you are coming to perform as amateurs you may still have to meet visa requirements, so make sure you check in advance.

Hi your music sounds interesting. I'f you're coming to the UK, good idea to send your details to open Mic Folk clubs, do some floor spots. The Club I run, while we're not yet offering paid bookings, we do offer occasional 20 to 25 minute showcase spots, and can put you in touch with other clubs, festival organisers etc.

If you're in our area The West Midlands our club details are

But Iceland is in the process of applying for EU membership, so the special visa question depends when Skarpi might think of coming to the UK?

Yep. You will need a sponsor in the UK to do paid performances here.

I think you only need one. The Northern Streams people are highly professional about this sort of stuff, so if you get them to invite you it'll be dealt with. They also pay properly, if they like you. A much higher profile than a floor spot at a folk club.
