Hello all

I'm in Dublin for a week for work - I've bought my fiddle and hoping to find some good sessions. Any tips on open sessions currently running?

thanks

Louisa

Try the Cobblestone tonight..

Most of the stuff you'll find in central Dublin is 'Oirish' and/or pseudo riverdance - by it's nature the non-commercial, non-performance stuff takes a bit of finding and what's to one person's taste may not be yours.. good luck

Might not make it out tonight but definitely later in the week. It's definitely the non-commercial non-performance stuff I'm after!

thanks

I was very disappointed when in Dublin last year and early this year, by the lack of trad music in central Dublin. Ot was mostly Disco ld stag and hen parties. I could see why folk are calling it the new Blackpool i.e loads of English out at 7p.m, paralytic by 9p.m and fighting shortly afterwards. I couldn't find one session in two nights thee. So I went down to Kilkenny and can see why they're calling it the New Dublin. Some great live music, best session I've ever been to in Cleers bar, good old go out late, sing into the early hours all ages, and real local musicians, love the place. Dublin needs to wake up and stop going for quick profits above quality. Drinks at least a full Euro cheaper in KK too

The Cobblestone in Smithfield, Hughes pub behind the Four Courts most nights.
If you're out that direction, try Duffy's in Malahide on Thursday nights around 10pm

Possibly O'Donoghues on Merrion Row most nights. I was welcomed there last time I was in Dublin with an instrument.

O'Donoghues has a session on Fridays from 1.00pm to 2.30pm approx. Usually very welcoming!
