22 Sep 10 - 07:45 AM (#2991361) Subject: RE: Uxbridge Folk Club Re-opening From: Sailor Ron Best of luck with the reopening, I used to attend when my work took me 'down South' and I was sorry to hear that it had closed. 'Giff' will certainly do you proud, good powerful singer, nice line in patter, & a fine guitarist. An expert on nautical songs, and 'birds in english folk song'. As long as he doesn't play his bowed psaltery I'm sure you will enjoy him! |
22 Sep 10 - 07:58 AM (#2991369) Subject: RE: Uxbridge Folk Club Re-opening From: Cllr Fantastic News, I will get over there for the opening if i can. Good luck and all the best! Cllr. |

Hope it all goes well. Will see Giff this weekend at Song and Ale. |

25 Sep 10 - 04:57 AM (#2993348) Subject: RE: Uxbridge Folk Club Re-opening From: Wild Flying Dove Excellent news. Especially as you're only a short drive down the M40 from our club. Choice of days is a problem I know, but as Marlow Folk and Acoutic club is on Wednesdays our members will be able to come along. Roger and I will try to visit soon. We won't make it this week though as I seem to some sort of flu bug and am a bit poorly! Hope you have an excellent evening and hopefully we'll come and join you one Thursday soon. Karen |
25 Sep 10 - 05:00 AM (#2993349) Subject: RE: Uxbridge Folk Club Re-opening From: Wild Flying Dove Have just looked at the website - Roger will be so so excited at the prospect of a folk club at a Royal Naval Association!! |
25 Sep 10 - 05:03 AM (#2993352) Subject: RE: Uxbridge Folk Club Re-opening From: Wild Flying Dove When I try to download the 2010/11 programme from the website it can't open because it's an "unknown file type" |
25 Sep 10 - 06:08 AM (#2993368) Subject: RE: Uxbridge Folk Club Re-opening From: Leadfingers Downloaded OK for me - I'll E Mail it Karen |
25 Sep 10 - 06:25 AM (#2993370) Subject: RE: Uxbridge Folk Club Re-opening From: Wild Flying Dove Thanks Terry but it's still saying unknown file - it has an .ods ending - what sort of programme opens .ods files? |
25 Sep 10 - 06:41 AM (#2993373) Subject: RE: Uxbridge Folk Club Re-opening From: GUEST You need to install 'Open Office'or some other application which will read a .ods file. 'Open Office' is a free alternative to the MS Office applications. It will read most of the MS Office file formats, but not h other way round Open Office |
25 Sep 10 - 06:43 AM (#2993374) Subject: RE: Uxbridge Folk Club Re-opening From: Singing Referee That last Guest we me without cookie! |
25 Sep 10 - 06:49 AM (#2993377) Subject: RE: Uxbridge Folk Club Re-opening From: Singing Referee I noticed the file type when I had a look at the site, and thought I should send a message to Archie. Sorry forgot! .ods is getting quite common, but not supported by MS Office, so lots of people won't be able to read it. Although I've added a link to Open Office above, it is a full office application and therefore quite large. It's good, but not everyone might want to (or be allowed to) load it. It you (Archie)are using Open Office, better to export your document to .pdf format from Open Office and post that to the website. |
25 Sep 10 - 08:52 AM (#2993408) Subject: RE: Uxbridge Folk Club Re-opening From: Wild Flying Dove Terry sent me the file as a jpeg which is great as I can now view the programme :) Why not put the programme on the website so we don't have to download a file? If you want a downloadable programme as well, it really needs to be in a format accessible to most people. Many thanks to Terry! |
25 Sep 10 - 08:59 AM (#2993411) Subject: RE: Uxbridge Folk Club Re-opening From: The Sandman good luck with the club. dick miles |
25 Sep 10 - 10:11 AM (#2993440) Subject: RE: Uxbridge Folk Club Re-opening From: GUEST,PeterC File is an open office spreadsheet. It can be saved as html or pdf within open office which would be better for those who rely on MS software. |
25 Sep 10 - 10:34 AM (#2993445) Subject: RE: Uxbridge Folk Club Re-opening From: Singing Referee Sorry, while I was getting involved in the techie stuff, I should have wished good fortune for the club. The previous incarnation was on it's way out just as I got back into folk a few years back. Christine (in particular) and I are not that far away, so we must get along soon. Guest list looks very strong, so deserves support. |
27 Sep 10 - 07:04 AM (#2994362) Subject: RE: Uxbridge Folk Club Re-opening From: Archie Macaulay Sorry folks, new to Mudcat and just picked up these responses. Document is in Open Document Format - see http://kairosnews.org/odf-word-converter. ODF is free to all and used by Google among others. Also new to Google site development. I will try to insert the programme directly rather than as an attachment. Thanks for your interest and comments - looking forward to meeting you all at some point Archie |
27 Sep 10 - 04:14 PM (#2994712) Subject: RE: Uxbridge Folk Club Re-opening From: Archie Macaulay A pdf version of the programme is now available in the website as an attachment - still working on a Google spreadsheet that will open on the programme page. Derek Gifford appears for our opening night on this Thursday 30 Sep. I look forward to seeing some of you there. Archie |

01 Oct 10 - 10:31 AM (#2997548) Subject: RE: Uxbridge Folk Club Re-opening From: Archie Macaulay I ended up having to subsidise it but it was a good evening with four floor singers and Giff was on good form. I need more people to come otherwise it won't work. BAND OF TWO are performing on 28th. |
07 Oct 10 - 02:34 PM (#3001897) Subject: RE: Uxbridge Folk Club Re-opening From: Leadfingers Band of Two (Web Site ) Are a bit good ! I played with Pete and Garrt in Noel Murphy's Charity band when Noel was still in Richmond . |

11 Oct 10 - 11:26 AM (#3004466) Subject: RE: Uxbridge Folk Club Re-opening From: Archie Macaulay Band of Two are the Fun in Folk. Anyone coming on the 28th will have a great evening downright miserable sods excepted. You will also hear resident singer songwriters: Chloe Brighton, new to the UK from the USA, and the Elderberries who surprised us all last month with beautiful renditions of their own creations and some popular folk songs of the last fifty years. |
11 Oct 10 - 11:58 AM (#3004487) Subject: RE: Uxbridge Folk Club Re-opening From: Valmai Goodyear Archie, your comment about having to subsidise the first night rang a warning bell with me. Probably every organiser subsidises a bit from time to time, but don't let it become a habit for your own sake and the sake of the club. It can be helpful to have a few singarounds with a modest entry fee or collection so that you've got a reserve to help out if you are giving guaranteed fees. Obviously many clubs have raffles for that purpose as well. Valmai (Lewes Saturday Folk Club) |
11 Oct 10 - 12:03 PM (#3004498) Subject: RE: Uxbridge Folk Club Re-opening From: Leadfingers I have a serious dilemma here ! Band of Two , or my old mate Robb Johnston both on the same night !! |
11 Oct 10 - 04:03 PM (#3004662) Subject: RE: Uxbridge Folk Club Re-opening From: Archie Macaulay Thanks for comments - can't afford to subsidise at all, so that won't go on for long. Singarounds are a great suggestion, but I have Maidenhead and Elsdale happening on the same night - and we are just starting but confined by venue to a Thursday. For this reason, we need to grow a bit and planning to introduce singers evenings in January when we have some traction. Your choice Leadfingers is pure fun in Uxbridge or deep and meaningful in Maidenhead. |
21 Oct 10 - 01:57 PM (#3012343) Subject: RE: Uxbridge Folk Club Re-opening From: GUEST Onward and upwards! BAND OF TWO appears next Thursday 28 Oct. Appearing also will be Mark&Ulf, Choe Brighton and Terry Silver. It will be a hugely enjoyable evening. Hope to see some of you there Archie |
22 Oct 10 - 04:00 PM (#3013238) Subject: RE: Uxbridge Folk Club Re-opening From: GUEST 'nother hiccough! couldn't meet BAND OF TWO terms, so cancelled and now have Terence O'Flaherty appearing - listen to his youtube stuff, it's superlative Archie |
22 Oct 10 - 10:13 PM (#3013450) Subject: RE: Uxbridge Folk Club Re-opening From: Leadfingers Sorry Aechie - I was prepared to miss Robb for Band of Two , but NOT for a singer I havent heard of , good though he may be ! |
28 Oct 10 - 09:42 AM (#3017667) Subject: RE: Uxbridge Folk Club Re-opening From: GUEST No worries Terry. Final lineup is Terence O'Flaherty http://terence.arborescencia.net/crosscurrents.html coming with box player, with spots from Chloe Brighton and Hedstrand. Floor singers really welcome. |
28 Oct 10 - 03:07 PM (#3017930) Subject: RE: Uxbridge Folk Club Re-opening From: Crowhugger Geez, this at least the 8th time I've perked up with delight at this thread title, only to realize my folly. A folk club in beautiful Uxbridge, Ontario (Canada) would mean I wouldn't always need to go into the big, smelly, trafficky Toronto, ON. Oh well, though my personal delight is dashed once again, I'm thoroughly tickled for you who are near the Uxbridge under discussion. I'll be thinking of you all tonight! ...now back to regularly scheduled programming... |
29 Oct 10 - 10:16 AM (#3018496) Subject: RE: Uxbridge Folk Club Re-opening From: GUEST,Archie I though about asking what is stopping you setting one up in beautiful Uxbridge, Ontario and then I Googled Uxbridge, Ontario, Canada to find you were set up by 'no fun allowed' Quakers and no facilities to have fun other than a few golf courses and exercise places. Living there seems to be a very serious business. Last evening went very well with no need for personal subsidy this time. Terence O'Flaherty was a joy. |
31 Oct 10 - 08:07 AM (#3019898) Subject: RE: Uxbridge Folk Club Re-opening From: evansakes Archie, I've just been listening to Hayes FM Radio (91.8 khz) and they mentioned the reopened club more than once. They gave full details in the listings section but said that it was running "every Thursday" so you might want to put them right on that |
31 Oct 10 - 02:39 PM (#3020145) Subject: RE: Uxbridge Folk Club Re-opening From: GUEST Many thanks - we will eventually get to weekly, but not yet |
31 Oct 10 - 04:18 PM (#3020224) Subject: RE: Uxbridge Folk Club Re-opening From: Crowhugger Very serious indeed, GUEST,Archie! If they work in downtown Toronto they spend 3 hours each day just getting there and back, probably closer to 4 in winter and on summer Fridays. But unsustainability is another thread... |

06 Dec 10 - 07:18 AM (#3047337) Subject: RE: Uxbridge Folk Club Re-opening From: GUEST,Archie Thanks for the chuck up! This Thursday we have Barry Reeves. Programme being revised in the New Year because we don't yet have enough local singers to make singers evenings viable. We'll get there Archie |
