That'll probably be "Aisling Geal" (bright vision, literally). There's probably a copy around here somewhere-try the Search with that spelling.

Aha! There's a pair of us in it - it's "Aisling Gheal" i.e. feminine.

There's a thread with lyrics HERE

Sorry but its not Aisling Geal, its from the album Eist by Maura O'Connell Aisling Ghear (I think means Short Dream) same melody as Christy Moore sings "Chroi oh my Chroi"

Guest. Can't help you with the song but you've got the translation about right. It's the Christy Moore one which puzzles me though. You see, Chroí oh my Chroí would come out in English almost as Heart of My Heart. When I was a lad there was a very popular song of that name, which went something like:

Heart of My Heart, I love that melody;
Heart of My Heart brings back those memories,
When we were kids on the corner of the street,
We were rough and ready guys,
But, oh, how we could harmonize,
Heart of my heart, meant friends were dearer then
Too bad we had to   part,
I know a tear would glisten
If once more I could listen,
To the gang that sang Heart of My Heart.

Heart of my heart in Irish? Surely not :-)

Out of curiousity, I googled 'Aisling Ghear.' There are lots of occurrences. It seems to mean 'Bitter Vision.'

Sorry, that's all I learned.

OK. Title is Aisling Ghéar - note the accent on the e. Translates as "bitter vision", as has been said. It's an Irish language version of Jimmy McCarthy's song "Mystic Lipstick". I need to check the tranlation credit - think I have the Éist CD at home...

Dah
losing my mind, I got this in the mail is this the one or did I ask it wrong?

Mac An Cheannaí

Aisling ghéar do dhearcas féin
ar leaba 's mé go lagbhríoch
an ainnir shéimh darbh ainm Éire
ag teacht im ghaor ar marcaíocht
a súile glas, a cúl tiubh casta
a com ba gheal 's a mailí
dá mhaíomh go raibh ag tíocht 'na gar
a diogras, Mac an Cheannaí

A beol ba bhinn, a glór ba chaoin
is ró-shearc linn an chailín
céile Bhriain dár ghéill an Fhiann
mo léirchreach dhian a haicíd
fá shúistibh Gall dá brú go teann
mo chúileann tseang 's mo bhean ghaoil
beidh sí 'na spreas, an rí-bhean deas
go bhfillfidh Mac an Cheannaí

Na céadta tá i bpéin dá grá
le géarshearc shámh dá cneas mhín
clanna ríthe, maca Míle
dragain fhíochta 's gaiscígh
gnúis ná gnaoi ní mhusclann sí
cé dubhach fá scíos an chailín
níl faoiseamh seal le tíocht 'na gar
go bhfillfidh Mac an Cheannaí

A ráite féin, is cráite an scéal
mo lánchreach chlé do lag sinn
go bhfuil sí gan cheol ag caoi na ndeor
's a buíon gan treoir gan maithghníomh
gan fiach gan feoil, i bpian go mór
'na hiarsma fó gach madaí
cnaíte lag ag caoi na ndearc
go bhfillfidh Mac an Cheannaí

The Redeemer's Son

A bitter vision I beheld
in bed as I lay weary
a maiden mild whose name was Éire
coming toward me riding
with eyes of green, hair curled and thick
fair her waist and brows
declaring he was on his way
her loved one, Mac an Cheannaí

Her mouth so sweet, her voice so mild
I love the maiden dearly
wife to Brian, acclaimed of heroes
her troubles are my ruin
Crushed cruelly under alien flails
my fair-haired slim kinswoman
she's a dried branch, that pleasant queen
till he come, her Mac an Cheannaí

Hundreds hurt for love of her
her smooth skin in soft passion
kingly children, sons of Míle
champions, wrathful dragons
Her face, her countenance, is dead
in weariness declining
and nowhere is there relief
till he come, her Mac an Cheannaí

A fearful tale, by her account
her weakness my heart's ruin
She, musicless and weeping tears
her faint troops leaderless
no meat or game; she suffers much
a scrap for every dog
wasted, weak, with mourning eyes
till he come, her Mac an Cheannaí

If you're still interested:

'Sí an aisling ghéar í a sheol ar straoi mé
Lena scéalta is a véarsaí, lena ceol is a beol'
Sí an aisling ghéar í a thug dom dóchas
A lig síos go talamh me, is nach n-éiróidh go deo

A chroí ó a chroí, nach biodh brón ort
Ta an grá mar a bhí ag dul ar lár
Gan aon aird beo ag deoraí ar do dhán
Caoin do ghrá, scaoil le do shean-amhrán
Caoin an iomlán

Ta tu spíonta ag ainmhianta
Do ghrá teann id sparán
ó a Roisín, ta daoinní mór leat, biodh geal agat
Bíonn siad ann, táid ann

Sí thug beann ar na bhréaga
Ar bhriathra na spreais ina dál
A fothrom fola, a dúchas i ngeall ag dollar amadán
Fós féin beidh an lá linn
Le toil Dé is é is fearr
Féach an chorón nocht in uachtar
Is 'déanta in Eirinn' bocht ina lár

::::::::::::::::::
Caoin do ghrá bán

A chroí ó a chroí

She may sing it differently tho

Aisling gheal do shlad trím néal mé
Is go rabhas-sa tréithlag seal im luí
Is go rabhas i ngleann cois abhann im aonar
Is go rabhas ag aeraíocht le grá mo chroí
Go raibh na camthaí Gall agus Gaelach
Is claimhte géara ag uaisle an tsaol
Ag breith barr áidh is á rá le chéile
Go raibh clann an fhaoit anois le fáil gan mhoill

Ba ghearr a shamhail dom gur dhearcas Mary
'Gus gruaig a cinn léi go féar a' fás
A folt a tíocht mar na réaltainn
Ag titim léise go barr a troighe
Ag siúl na drúchta de barr an fhéir glais
'S is lúafar éadtrom mar do shiúladh sí
A dá chíoch chruinne ar a hucht go néata
A grua mar chaortha, is ba gheal í a píb

Do bheannaíos-sa do mo chuid i ngaelainn
Is modhail 's maorga do fhreagair sí
"A plúr na bhfear, mo shlad ná deinse
Mar is maighdean mé nár tháinig d'aois
Dhá dtéadh sa ghreann dúinn clann a dhéanamh
Is go mbéifeá séantach ins an ghníomh
Gur gearr ón mbás mé, is go bhfágainn Éire
Im ghóist im aonar bheinn romhat id shlí"

Do leagas mo láimh uirthi go béasach
Ó bhun a stays go dtí barr a troighe
In aghaidh gach staire go ndeinfinn léi dhi
Go bpógfainn a béilín tlath arís
Nuair a fuaras-sa dhom gur ghéill sí
Mo chroí do léim mar an éan ar chraoibh
Trí lár mo smaoinimh ach gur dhúisigh néal mé
Is de chumha ina disdh siúd, ní mhairfead mí

Another correction:

Do ghreann teann id' sparán

instead of 'do ghrà'
