CONGRATULATIONS, PETER! I'm proud to be the first to post on this thread (other than my man Dan, who started it.)

Looks like a very nice collection of songs. Is that a LIGHTHOUSE I see depicted on the back cover? Which one?

Here's the song list:
    Many Thousand Miles Behind Us
    (Pete Twitchett, 2010)
    1. Master of the Sheepfold
    2. Swifts and Swallows
    3. Resurrection Packet
    4. Roving Journeyman
    5. Grandfather Was a Fiddler
    6. Chickens in the Garden
    7. Handful of Songs
    8. Kelly
    9. The Tailor and the Mouse
    10. Shoemakers' Holiday
    11. Clipper Days
    12. Rolling Home

Thanks Guys.......

The CD is not actually in circulation yet, but I'll let you know when it is.

I have to thanks Jerry and Art for their help and support with a couple of the tracks (as well as their inspiration!) and thanks to Dan for his enthusiasm.

I am more than pleased with the job the recording engineer, Pete Allison, has done. I am also very proud to have had the assistance of Sarah O'Neill and Georgia Philip. Their support on many of the tracks is superb!

You'll have to wait to hear it, I'm afraid!

Oh...by the way Joe.....it is a lighthouse!

Best wishes,

Peter

This is another great set of melodic songs performed in the easy relaxed way that we have all become used to. Only to be expected really for Pete has been doing this for quite a while now but keeping up this standard for 40+ years with the same consistancy proves that Pete is one of folk musics true folk artists.       .

Pete frequently performs at the Milkmaid Folk Club in Bury St Edmunds and holds counsel at the Bull, Woolpit, one of the best singarounds in the area.

Nice one Pete.

Thanks Folkwaller,

Good to see you back on Mudcat!

......a little story about one of the songs. I sang "Chickens in the Garden" at a local Harvest Supper last week and dedicated it to all those who kept chickens. The next morning there was a box of 'real' eggs on my doorstep! Wonderful!

Best wishes,

Peter

Hi:

Just wanted to ask if we will be able to hear any song clips from your new CD? On CD Baby perhaps? Or on Youtube? I've had some problem in trying to get into Myspace or set Myspace up even though I followed the steps to get it so for the time being if you have a way for people to hear sound clips of your new CD (other then Myspace please let me know).
I like your cover (front & back of CD).
Thank you,
Lindy

Hello Lindy,

Good to hear from you. I'm trying to get some clips organised. I'll post here when it happens!

Like many things, it seems to be going slowly. Sigh!

Thanks for your interest.

Best wishes,

Peter

This is, truly a fine folk recording. We love it. Pete is a singer like all my favorite singers, straightforward and never gets in the way of the song he's singing. You hear every word clearly. --- What he did with Master of the Sheepfold is fascinating. The song is all there but some few phrase variations show me how it might be morphed by the folk process. And Jerry's song 'A Handful of Songs' is done beautifully--closer to Jerry's own rendition of it than mine--and that's for sure.

I really will listen to this over and over.

Peter, congratulations!
Art

Another little story if I may?

I had the opportunity to visit a session just to the north of Swaffham, in Norfolk...England.(Where the pedlar came from in the story). Sarah, the fiddler and Pete the whistle player (from the CD) were also there and we decided to do "Roving Journeyman". What was unexpected was that all the other musicians there joined in! So we had a full orchestra of uilleann pipes, saxophone, melodeon and mandolin as well as Sarah's fiddle backing! Magic!

Best wishes,

Peter

Here's an opportunity for those who would like to like to hear what the CD sounds like and what I sound like!

If you point your internet browser to www.waylandradio.com on Sunday 6th February 2011 between 7 p.m. and 9 p.m. (UK time) you will be able to hear me singing some of my songs, talking about my new CD and sharing some of my favourite folk tracks. Yes.....I know...it's a Sunday and its when every folk programme in the world is on!

However....

It would be really great if you were able to listen in. Wayland Radio is a community radio station that serves the South Norfolk area around Swaffham and Watton. It also streams over the internet and the folk programme regularly has a wide audience.

...be nice to know you were out there!

Best wishes,

Peter

Having finally got my recalcitrant PC to sort of work, I'll add my
Pennorth somewhat tardily to the pot. This latest offering of Pete's
is an honest representation of the good singing that Pete does
every week. All credit , too to Pete Allison, who has successfully
captured Pete's voice.A fine & eclectic choice of songs, sung with love & care. If you haven't bought it yet,do rectify the situation!

Dave.
