New session Herts UK - Bright Star

Hi

Just wanted to let you know that we're starting up a new session at The Bright Star Peter's Green. The 1st evening is Monday 18th October 8:30 pm and thereafter on the 3rd Monday of the month.

Unless you live in or near Luton, you might think of it as a bit in the back of beyond. The landlady keeps a nice pint of McMullens, though, and she's very keen.

If the Ashwell session's anything to go by, we'll just be singing and playing anything we like but, if you get in early, you'll be able to influence the style of it.

Please come if you live near Luton or just fancy a night out that night. I can promise you an interesting drive, particularly if you use the SatNav, though you WILL get there - honest.

:-)
Ian

Hi Ian

Sure thing - sounds like a good session

A few flyers to Redbourn Folk Club might help

They have a lot of participants living in the area of the pub

Had a business meeting Monday eve and so had to miss it, as I had suspected. Bugger.

I'll definitely do my best to get along to the next one - as long as someone can promise that there has been a recent change of management...

I'd been looking out for a report in the Herts/Beds thread. Come on fellas, how did it shape up?

Hi Ian

I heard a rumour that there isn't a December session (20th)

Is that right?

Cheers

Ross

Hi Ross

Sorry, I thought I'd posted it here!!!

We won't be at The Bright Star in December ... too close to Christmas for most people.

*** The next session will be on January 17th, 8:30 ***

Cheers!
Ian

BTW the last one was really good. An enormous variety of instruments and styles ... and despite the freezing weather, we've found a route which gets us back to Ashwell in half an hour or so. Thanks to all who turned up.

can't make the session but think you should use Sarah Davis' Bright Star song as your theme tune

Bad news ...

Betty, the landlady at The Bright Star has texted us to say that she's closed the pub down and gone back to live in North London. I'm not altogether surprised as , the pub being in the middle of nowhere, the best night of the month was when we turned up for the session.

Not sure who, or when, the next landlord/manager will appear but the session on the 21st March is off as there won't be anyone around. It does appear that we have quite a lot of support in the village (hamlet, really) so that anyone new appearing will know about us. I'll keep you up with developments but it looks like a session which quickly became pretty popular and lively has suddenly come to a halt.

Sorry for any hassle this may cause. Please post anything else which is happening locally here (or requests for information).

Best!
Ian

Just found these messages.
I came to every session except the last one, so was sad to hear news of Betty's departure. The sessions gave me my first experience of playing fiddle with other musicians and I really enjoyed them.
I do hope they can start up again.
Thanks for the experience.
Alan
