The Google logo today (8 October 2010) honors John Lennon on his 70th birthday. When you "click to play" you get animation, followed by an automatic search for "John Lennon."

I thought I'd post on this but Jim got here first........and I am surprised that no one else has shown up. Kinda' tough to imagine a 70 year old John isn't it? Maybe that's why there aren't any more posters yet..................

Google's jumped the gun though.

Lennon's birthday is the 9th (ie tomorrow)...and did you know that Sean was born on John's 35th birthday. So tomorrow he will himself be the same age as his father was the day he was born !!

Here's Loudon Wainwright's "Not John"

Bettynh, not sure what you mean, I got it on the USA one and the UK?

Beautiful, simple and yes, Spaw...hard to *imagine* him being 70. Still so sad he has been gone these many years.

Hmmm, I only get the search. Maybe I've blocked something.

Hey, on October 13, Paul Simon will be 69. Bob Dylan is already 69. Paul McCartney is 68. Carole King is 68. These guys will probably be "forever young" to me, as long as they keep performing.

Maybe this is a personal response. I don't know why; maybe it has to do with their style of music and creativity. Maybe it's because I learned to love their music when I was quite young myself, and I still do.

We're not 'old fogies' (Hey, you kids! Get off my lawn! -- Sorry, where was I?)

Right, we're not old fogies, or old folkies.

We're GEEZERS WITH GUITARS!

I love the logo and the video. It is of course taken from the LP

He would still have been young:)

If you hover over the logo, you get "Happy 70th birthday, John Lennon". Is that the best of taste, considering he's dead? I find it a peculiarly spooky sentiment.

Missed this yesterday, sadly. But today, YouTube has a Lennon logo, which takes you to a Lennon Channel and a message from Yoko.

A Lennon story: Shortly before John and Yoko's double ablum came out, there was a long article on John and the satisfaction he was experiencing, being a home-father. I was moved by it, and sent him a letter to the Dakota, including a copy ...of my first Folk Legacy album. We both owed a lot to Lonnie Donnegan and the skiffle bands. Shortly after that, I received a copy of the double album in the mail, with a Dakota hotel return address. No note, but it was still a surprising act of generosity. On Saturday night live, they did a skit with Dan Ackroyd as a foorman at the Dakota, fishing through the garbage cans, hoping to find a copy of the double album. There was a great deal of excitement about its impending release, because no one had an advance copy (except me.) It wasn't until a couple of weeks later when the album was released to the critics.

I've never thought of anyone as inaccessible. After John's murder, I read that security had been very tight and that no mail addressed to him was ever delivered. Except mine.

Folks is folks.

Yes, this thread is an old one.
So is the article to which this post will link.
At the time, I suppose, I felt too raw to read
'Lennon at 70!' a Vanity Fair satire by David Kamp (24 September 2010) in the magazine issue.

Today, in light of the fiction film "Yesterday"
with Robert Carlyle acting the part of
septuagenarian John Lennon --
no, I have not viewed the film --
it is a little bit easier to read through
the satire from Vanity Fair magazine.
And, yes, the satire does draw blood,
so read at your own risk.

How well do you think Lennon and Elvis are getting on with each other
in the luxury secret retirement home for old celebrities
who faked their own deaths to escape the demands of stardom...???

That Sid Vicious might still be getting on their nerves...
