I have a friend who will be in NYC the week of October 17th. He's looking for open mics in or around Greenwich village, preferably on a Monday or Tuesday.   He performs his own songs as well as some traditional blues/folk etc. Here's his MySpace http://www.myspace.com/tommartinsolo . Any suggestions would be welcome. Thanks!

Pinewoods Folk Music Club might have something in its listings (here).

Pinewoods Folk Music Club/Folk Music Society of NY cosponsors an Irish session every Monday at the Landmark Tavern, 11th Ave & 47th St. On Friday, October 22 there will be a concert for Daniel Pearl World Music Days, "using the power of music to reaffirm our commitment to tolerance and humanity." It will be held at the OSA union hall, 220 E. 23rd ST.suite707. We are seeking songs in as many languages as possible. To sign up contact info@folkmusicny.org or check the web site at http://www.folkmusicny.org

Mary,

Let me echo what Booklynrose has to say. Also, if your friend follows the link she provided, he will be able to view the October issue of the New York Pinewoods Folk Music Club newsletter online. While it lists only club events on the front page, if your friend looks on pages 9-17 inside, he we see all sorts of folk music events throughout New York City and beyond.

Another place to look is the Acoustic Live website: www.acousticlive.com/acoustic_live/Home.html

Between the two websites, your friend should find more than enough t keep him busy.

Kindest regards.
