At this time of year, there are many Corn mazes and Pumpkin Patches and hay rides around. One farm near here used to sponsor a scarecrow contest near halloween, but has stopped offering that. Do you have
any activities like this near you?

then, after you get the pumpkin you have to carve it!

and when you put alight inside it, it becomes a jack-o-lantern

Here in UK, there was a Maize Maze during the summer near Basingstoke. It was cut in the shape of a Spitfire as a mark of the anniversary of the Battle of Britain, and was well worth a visit. Hope they do something next year

Let's try this again -- (I just posted this with two links and it "didn't take"; sigh.)

Here is the link to the corn mazes in New Hampshire (USA) --

And here is the one closest to our house, next town over --
Coppal House
This year it's in the shape of a Great Horned Owl.

Curmudgeon and I have always found it peculiar that scarecrows are associated with autumn and post-harvest and Hallowe'en decorating rather than when they would be more appropriate and useful -- during the growing season BEFORE the crop is harvested.
