I hope so to but unlikely, Had a friend setting up for his gig hauling his equipment inside the bar. He said his eyes were off the van 5 minutes and came out, his Martin gone, his PA mixer Gone and 3 mikes gone .. that fast .. and in a small town also ..

go figure anymore. That was 2 years ago ... no trace of them

What a shame - on the eve of a Show of Hands tour as well. She was in good voice last night at St George's Church in Beckenham. Steve Knightly added words to his song Santiago in honour of the Chilean miners - they opened whith this.

I'm sorry for her, but it's incredibly naïve to leave expensive equipment in a car.

GuestEd, that's easy to say but sometimes there's no alternative. It's not always possible to lug heavy instruments and accessories with you everywhere you go. Sometimes the car is the only lockable place you can leave them.

Nevertheless when I'm loading or unloading I always lock the car between trips. But while I'm doing that other stuff is left unattended on the stage.

The last description of a professional like Miranda I would use would be "naive"

So sorry to hear about this. I've been so fortunate in the past having left valuable bass gear in a car at a festival, and the door unlocked...in the street...for a couple of hours!!. Thats Naive!!

If Miranda reads this and needs the loan of a GK micro for a while, please contact me, even though I'm a bit distant in her native Lincolnshire.

I got a Facebook message from Ed Rennie (Stolen Instrument Gallery) about this, and it seems that the car was outside Miranda's house when the gear (worth about £3000 in total) was stolen. I guess about the only mercy is that she hadn't left any musical instruments in the car...

hmm.. Bath...

a better class of thieving junkies...?????

I remember a 'Battle of the Bands' at Moles club about a decade ago
when members of one of the bands were observed backstage
attempting to ransack the equipment of other competing bands...

I seemed to have typed an extra H in with!!!

I should also mention that support was Jackie Oates who gave an excellent performance, especially the duet with Steve Knightly - was it Keys of Canterbury? They stood at opposite ends of the church and the natural accoustics of the space was used to good effect.

While it is distressing to lose equipment in this manner, a good insurance policy would seem to be the way to take the pain out of it a little.
I have cover for guitars, when left unattended in a parked, and locked, vehicle. The only proviso is that the items must not be visible from outside said vehicle. So get a load cover for you estate car, and use it, or drive a van,
It's also no use covering your car with Folk Against Fascism, Musician's Union Says Keep Music Live, and/or various folk festival/club stickers. Then expecting people with nicking in mind, not to want to investigate the contents of your vehicle, covered or uncovered!

My son had a rucksack full of special effects pedals, leads etc taken from his car:but the thieves were probably looking for money - which they didn't get, and the FX pedals probably ended up in a ditch - or maybe as it was Glasgow - in Barrowlands market (the Barras) the next day!

Some partial good news from Facebook's Missing Instruments Gallery:

"Had a message from miranda, the Police have recovered her amp in a pawn shop in Bath and have a piccie of the suspect. A collar to be felt dreckly with luck."

Other stuff is still missing though, so keep your eyes peeled. Full descriptions on Facebook:

What would be nice is this:

Recovered gear and apprehended crim.

Gear worth £1000, you get 10 minutes with baseball bat and said crim,

Gear worth £2000, you get 20 minutes . . . you get the idea.

I suspect that might act as more deterrent than understanding it's all Society's fault when he/she was dropped on their head as a baby.

Steady on lad, we've already had wazzock, and now you blithely utter the word pillock.
Have some consideration for our transatlantic friends, they don't understand English English, you know :)
Next thing you know, it'll be plonker!

Perhaps you have to be a member of Facebook to see it. Here's a cut-and-paste:

Here's some more details Miranda sent about the other items:

"My blue flightcase has a large yellow Puxley LTD label on it & it also has a piece of white gaffer tape on the side of the case with "Miranda Stage Set Up" on it.

The Neumann mic is in a grey soft case & it had a piece of white tape with " MS Neumann KMS 105" the mic is also marked in the same way.

The Shure E5's are in a hard black case. The case is marked with white tape & my name.

The Orchid Preamp is unusual in that it has an adapter both sides of it - allowing it to be mounted on the mic stand on either side.

The Boss TU7 tuner is in almost new condition & still in its cardboard case.

Some of the various cables & leads have yellow "Puxley Ltd" asset labels & there is a custom made lead which I use for my double bass which is an XLR & J to J."

Slightly OT but picking up on the baseball bat comment ... we were burgled (twice) last year. I now find myself doing some part-time secretarial work for a local solicitor, working for the Crime department (who defend the local crims - someone has to). Imagine my feelings last week when I started work on a file and recognised my own name on one of the documents. Yes, I was typing a letter to our burglar!
I have, since, been going over all the various options. I know his address so could, presumably, knock on the door or break a window and help myself to his stuff. Or send the boys round with baseball bats. Or arrange for double-glazing salesmen to call at his door, repeatedly, at all hours of the day and night, asking for him by name. I could have added a paragraph to the letter I was typing (and I'm sure my boss would have gone along with this) just to let him know that it was me typing it and that I knew his address ... However, I've done none of the above and prefer to remain in my morally unassailable high ground.
Any other creative solutions?

Actually it should be 'AN utter pillock?'

Yes . . . but it doesn't hurt because it's only THEIR opinion ;o)
