25 Aug 99 - 06:00 PM (#108521) Subject: Shirt on his back? 45 miles from home? From: katlaughing Got a call from my sister who is in Nebraska. She has a parishioner who wants to use some song lyrics in a talk he is putting together. It is a country western song (sorry!) and, of course, they don't know the title or artist. :-) What they do know is it is something about a man, possibly Jesus, who has only the shirt on his back, who is never far from home, something about 45 miles (maybe), and the good that he does with so little. Ring any bells?? Thanks a bunch! I didn't ahve any luck on the DT or Cowpie. kat |

I can't find any C&W sites that have a search by phrase except Cowpie & it didn't show anything close. I'll see if I can find out more from my sister. katlaughing |

A hundred miles, a hundred miles, a hundred miles, a hundred miles, a hundred miles, you can hear the whistle blow a hundred miles. Not a shirt on my back, not a penny to my name Lord I'm five hundred miles away from home. Five hundred miles, five hundred miles (etc), Lord I'm five hundred miles away from home. Lord I'm one, Lord I'm two, Lord I'm three, Lord I'm four, Lord I'm five hundred miles away from home, away from home, away from home, away from home, (cont.) |

Man went around the country with only the shirt on his back, doing good, BUT only went 45 miles from home....no further, probably about Jesus. She said she remembers hearing it at least ten years ago and it is definitely from the Country & Western genre. Thanks, all! kat |
