I find it hard to believe, but apparently there's never been a Mudcat thread with origami in the title.

Any origamitricians out there? Or appreciants of the art?

http://www.ericjoisel.com/ (Eric Joisel died just recently, unfortunately - for music content, play "spot the concertina" ...it was a poster at concertina.net who pointed me to this)

http://www.greenfusefilms.com/ (made the documentary excerpted at the
above website: "Between the Folds")

http://www.itvs.org/films/between-the-folds (I'm trying to figure out
if the entire film is viewable online there)

Actually, if you go through Eric Joisel's online gallery, there are quite a few musicians included.

Recently i went to a music and dance camp and one of the regular attendees had a paper folding session asking as many people as possible to help fold paper boxes to be used for wedding ornaments...or gifts...

people who do origami are called (or call themselves) FOLDERS

here are some designs

a local library has a person on staff who gives origami lessons to kids at the library.

There was a television program in the UK about the art back in the 60s but unfortunately I didn't get around to actually doing it myself. I could make brilliant paper aeroplanes though.

I love looking at origami. Can't get my head around actually doing it, though I've tried.

This thread reminded me of the Mitchell and Webb sketch padlockigami

For the somewhat less aesthetically minded I saw this book in a shop the other day

I won a lot of money playing poker with an origamist.
He kept folding......(sorry) :-)

damn... I am now going to have to try again... I always tried instruction books, which I could not follow.

There used to be Origami pages in the old "Rupert" annuals and one of them had the best design I ever came across for a paper plane. You could easily alter the elevon angles to perform different acrobtics.

The trouble is that it was so complicated that I could never remember how to fold it without the instructions and the book has long ago disappeared:(

I can remember how to make one that was about 75% as good ( and about 50% as complicated).

I started an origami club, there weren't enough members so it folded.

Paper airplanes? In high school, I was an expert at same with the tin foil from Wrigley's chewing gum. I could make one that, when hurled with my laser like arm speed, would stick in the side of the face of Rick Bernard at 20 feet away. He was a huge lad. Thank goodness, as such, he couldn't catch me.

The trouble with all of these things I am enthusiastic to start with......

I am still getting my head around completing a crocheted scarf from 2 years ago!

Talking of paper planes we used to drop them down on to the people below and run.
