Lyr Req: Kokoleoko (Liberian folk song)

Subject: kokoleoko-liberian folk song
From: GUEST,Sheila

Hi. I'm seeking any information about this Liberian folk song: translations, performers, authors (if any), rituals, etc. I've found this: http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_noss?url=search-alias%3Ddigital-music&field-keywords=kokoleoko&x=18&y=17, plus a few youtube performances,
but it doesn't help much with the meaning. I know something about a rooster and cockadoodle-doo.
Thanks for any help.

Sheila

This page (click) has lyrics for this and other African songs. Cute song.

KOKOLEOKO
(Folk melody from Liberia)

Chorus:
KOKOLEOKO, MAMA, KOKOLEOKO
KOKOLEOKO, CHICKEN CROWING FOR DAY.

ONE MORE ROUND TETE, ONE MORE ROUND,
ONE MORE ROUND, CHICKEN CROWING FOR DAY

Chorus
TAKE YOUR TIME, CHICKEN , TAKE YOUR TIME
TAKE YOUR TIME, CHICKEN CROWING FOR DAY

Chorus
Kokoleoko is African 'cockadoodle doo'.

A YouTube Video teaches the song, parts, and motions....

The oldest reference I can find to KOKOLEOKO is in African Songs (Delaware, Ohio: [Cooperative Recreation Service], ©1958), 32 pages.

From the cover: "The Music Department of Antioch College joined the Cooperative Recreation Service in sponsoring at Antioch College, May 10, 1957, an African Folk Music Work Shop. From the work shop and additional sources has come this sampler of African folk music."
