Well it was cute and impressive for a minute then it dragged on and on. The other videos of him playing are way more interesting.

Peace, Mooh.

Every so often I find interesting performances that don't necessarily merit their own thread, but I want to call to people's attention.

I'll start with this one, 3 year old conducts Beethoven. Jonathan conducts the entire fourth movement of Beethoven's fifth symphony, and it is clear that he knows this piece very well. And LOVES it!

Thanks, SRS, that's delightful.

And amazing. When I was that age, Beethoven's 4th would have been an uninteresting blur of sound. I say that because I remember listening to the radio when a new song was announced and being disappointed if it didn't have words. At the age of 3 or 4, I felt that if it didn't have a voice singing words, there was nothing interesting.

I consider this little boy really remarkable.

I grew up listening entirely to classical music until about age 6 or 7 when my father took up folk singing. So this could have been any of us in our household growing up. I remember asking my parents what was the music on the NBC Nightly News (I think it was the 2nd movement of Beethoven 6th - but it's been a long time since I asked that question or when it was on as the theme music). They went in, got the record, and played it for us.

The Andre Rieu/Akim Camara performance shows a little automaton performing on the instrument. I don't think you see even a glimmer of pleasure in that child's face. He's performing and looking for the approval of grownups. The little guy who was first posted my Laurel and by me was ALL about the pleasure in the music.

This is Carrie, and she can't be more than a few years old, but she's delightful, funny, and amazing to watch:

Terminally twee. Why don't we wait 20 years and see if she develops a voice?

Ya, Hawk, I'd say Carrie's honed her craft a lot more.

But that hairy critter with the guitar plays better than some rockers I've heard. (Kind of resembles some of them too.)

Here's a quick little video that shows the transformative power of music on small children.

Flash Mob in mall sings Hallelujah Chorus. This one blows me away. You see several tears shed during this beautiful performance. And what a lot of fun!

I love that first video. I want to be reborn a concert violinist now, and when I grow up that man to be my conductor.

Mason Jar Music has a site, that Rosanne Cash linked to over in Twitter. This is a religious piece, beautifully performed. Scroll below the video and see the discussion of how this group sneaks into empty old buildings to tape well-planned performances in these abandoned buildings. Interesting.

The best source for the "Playing for Change" music would be from here: http://playingforchange.com/.

It has links to various episodes from this wonderful film. (I'd still like to see Mudcat raise funds and through a group like this build a school somewhere).

An absolutely charming performance, Dick! One of my favourite songs of all time which you handle with customary panache...
