Gipsy (?) singer on Horo Gheallaidh?

Horo Gheallaidh tonight (October 23) had various performers from the Celtic Connections festival - well, maybe it always has, I don't know - someone was flicking past the channel and I went "Whoah, who's *that*?"

It was a large lady with short hair, singing in a strong, hoarse alto, backed by a smooth sax player with a goatee, a fiddle, and - didn't really notice what else.

They sounded gipsy; might have been Romanian or Spanish. The Horo Gheallaidh page doesn't list all the performers (why? why? why no proper playlist?) - does anyone know who she is, and what she was singing?

Hm, bit of searching makes me think it might be Anghjula Potentini - can't find her picture (not much good to me anyway as I can't recognise faces too well), this sounds like her voice.

Suggest that she may be Corsican?

If that's who it is, she is Corsican - it's kind of like sean-nós only more expressive, without that rigorous thing.

Anyone seen the programme who knows the singer and can confirm who she is?

It's a programme on BBC Alba, the Scots Gaelic service of the BBC TV channel; its name is Horo Gheallaidh; it was broadcast last night, October 23, 2010.

If you saw the programme and can identify the singer, that would be nice; otherwise, don't worry about it.

It's on the iplayer for a week. I haven't watched last night's yet, but the introductions are sub-titled in English, so there should be some information about the lady's identity.

Ah, that's great, Dave - didn't realise there was an iPlayer for BBC Alba, but of course there would be.

I don't know who she is, but I love her singing. Beautiful tone, unforced delivery, great command over the decorations, just lovely. I want her cd. Information Please. Burl.

The credits are given BEFORE the act as the programme goes along.
The band's name is MARFUL, and they are Galician (NW Spain)not Corsican, so I guess the language is Gallego (the Galician language). The style is a bit like Portuguese fado (Portugal of course being a near neighbour of Galicia.)
The lady's name is Ugia Pedreira.
More about them here:http://www.rootsworld.com/reviews/marful07.shtml
and here: http://www.bbc.co.uk/scotland/music/celticconnections/2010/artists/marful/
And they have their own website, and there are quite a few Youtibes of them.
"Horo Gheallaidh" is one of the best music programmes on TV, but sadly (and this is a bone of contention!) not yet availble on Freeview, only on Freesat or Sky - BUT as has been pointed out, it can be watched by UK residents at least with internet access via BBC iPlayer
