It is an improvisational instrumental performance of dark music. What it will sound like will largely depend on who is there. My reasoning for this is twofold. 1. To my knowledge you do not need a permit to perform music in the streets of New York, only to have an amplification device (This is acoustic, no amplification, thus no permit needed) http://www.citylore.org/citylore_links-guide.html#performing 2. Instrumental music is a pure form of expression free of political bias. Music has the power to define a space. Sound spreads out affecting all within its radius. Depressing instrumental music on Wall St. communicates a message of displeasure to the neighborhood and hopefully will inspire others to express themselves as well. There will probably be a sign saying something like "No money please, we are not a bank." to make the message clearer. We also might sing some classics like "Nobody Knows You When You're Down and Out" or "Brother Can You Spare a Dime" (I'll bring extra copies of lyrics and such). So come one come all, with your non-amplified instrument and express yourself to make a marginal, yet fulfilling difference in this sad excuse for a banking system. The Federal Reserve is several blocks away on Liberty Street. There is more space near the Stock Exchange, because the street is closed to traffic, but it is swarming with police and guards. I have no idea whether they would allow a small group of people to stand around and play music. There is a little plaza behind the Federal Reserve Bank that would have space for a demonstration. I don't know who owns the plaza and how they would respond to a demonstration. |

I think the best place is at the corner of Nassau and Liberty, there looks to be some good space across the street. Zuccotti Park looks like a great place to hang out and play, but it is privately owned so I'm not really sure how they'd respond either. After getting some people together I wouldn't be opposed to moving around, hitting up the park, other corners, Goldman Sachs, or AIG. We could even do live twitter updates ;-)... |
