27 Oct 10 - 04:40 AM (#3016512) Subject: RE: Frank Vignola tours Europe From: Lox Thank you for this! Frank is one of my guitar heroes. There aren't many who have his expression, even if his language isn't as complex as someone like Birelle Legrene, he oozes musicality and humour. His trio are also a perfect advertisement for the power of simplicity. And as November 4th is my birthday ... I'm going to have to follow your link! |

05 Nov 10 - 06:47 AM (#3024152) Subject: RE: Frank Vignola tours Europe From: Roger the Skiffler Three words: TRE-MEN-DOUS! He and his second guitarist Vinnie (the term rhythm guitarist is inadequate)played a 2 hour set with no breaks that went from Lennon/McCartney to Bach/Mozart/Bizet via Waller/Berlin/Simon/Gershwin with special tributes to Django and Les Paul. The 2 guitarists had great rapport and slipped in some humour: "Shadows" walk, stopping to pose when someone got a camera out,a snatch of "Duelling Banjos" among the flying fingers. Sadly there were only about 30 of us there, all sitting as near to the stage as we could get. They only had a couple of small amps and eschewed the vocal mike but you could hear a pin drop when they were playing so it was a nice intimate evening. The early finish was to enable them to get some sleep before flying from Bristol to Ireland. They're playing Belfast, Dublin, Bristol, Exeter and Birmingham (for full dates see my link in the first post). If you can, GO AND SEE THEM! Sonny Black, who was sitting behind be summed it up "incredible". I said "magnificent- the most fun I've had with my clothes on" (What a memory, Roger!). RtS |
