Tech: Windows 7, how command line interface?

I have a new Dell desktop, with Windows 7, and I'm setting it up. But there is a problem.

I cannot fathom how to invoke a command line interface, which I'm sure must be possible. Otherwise, there are countless functions that I don't think can be done, which I've done routinely for years in DOS and in versions of Windows up to and including XP PRO.

Also, I don't understand how to get to those functions which, in XP PRO, are contained in the Control Panel, such as the Add or Remove Hardware or Add or Remove Programs and other matters.

I know there are those here who use Windows 7, and would some of you guide me on these matters?

Go to Start, in the bottom of the menu will be a search box, type in cmd.

Alternately, there's a shortcut to the Run application. win+r will bring the Run box to the top, and you can type cmd or cmd.exe in there and hit enter.

As for the control panel and program/hardware manager, in Windows 7 some things have been moved or consolidated and/or renamed. I can't say for sure how it is on versions besides Windows 7 Home Premium, but on that one the Control Panel is linked to in the start menu by default, and in the control panel there's a Programs and Features app that serves as the Add or Remove Hardware and Programs app, if memory serves.

Best of luck.
