Here on the other side of the pond, I've only seen him in the film Finian's Rainbow... talk about the 99 percenters in that one.... and a small film, name long forgotten, where he was the screwup kid brother. It was a little easier to find Dirk Bogarde films on the local channel movie slots, but not much. I used to keep a tally of the different films I got to see of my favorite actors... this was LONG before even VHS came out... by going through the list I refreshed my memory of the films. How times have changed! |

Then the film 'The Tommy Steele Story' came out, and his reputation was secure for all time. That lasted until 'The Duke Wore Jeans' and 'Tommy The Toreador' were released, which left me feeling like Monty Python's lumberjacks: something had changed, our hero had feet of clay, and there was no way back. Anyway, I got my first guitar - a blue, plastic four-stringer with Tommy Steele stickers on the front. Now I know several chords and read the Mudcat each day. |
