What a shame, one of Coronation Street's best loved characters snuffs it tonight 8:30 pm on ITV UK. I am a big fan od CS and its sad to see well respected actors leave. What is your best memory of Jack Duckworth? Mine was pidgeons. Jack loved em but the actor Bill Tarmey hates them. |

09 Nov 10 - 05:18 AM (#3027395) Subject: RE: BS: OMG Jack Duckworth snuffs it ITV 8:30pm From: Steve Shaw Rita isn't an original. It's just Ken, and has been for years. I watched the very first episode when I was nine and shouted to my mum in the kitchen that there was this dead good programme on Channel 9. She told me to shut it. |
09 Nov 10 - 05:31 AM (#3027406) Subject: RE: BS: OMG Jack Duckworth snuffs it ITV 8:30pm From: Arthur_itus Well Steve, you get the Gold award for being the longest watcher. I wonder how many more can say they have seen Corrie from the start. |
09 Nov 10 - 05:55 AM (#3027424) Subject: RE: BS: OMG Jack Duckworth snuffs it ITV 8:30pm From: Steve Shaw I regret to inform you that I stopped watching it (along with every other soap) when Hilda Ogden and her muriels were still in it. However, I get to glimpse it every time I visit my mum, who is an avid watcher (in spite of her initial rebuff). I've actually become totally soap-averse. I have to leave the room whenever my wife puts on Holby City or Casualty (it annoys her muchly when I refer to them as Holby Titty and Casualtitty). If I'm to receive any gold award at all it should be for the fact that I have never watched so much as a single minute of EastEnders, ever. |

10 Nov 10 - 06:18 AM (#3028181) Subject: RE: BS: OMG Jack Duckworth snuffs it ITV 8:30pm From: Arnie Jack was supposedly dying of cancer. He looked pretty good for a man with only days to live. In reality, just before the end, you would not be in a state to get out of bed, let alone stroll down to the Rovers for a pint. If terminal cancer sufferers could simply attend a party and then doze off in a chair then that would be a nicer way to go than the drugged-up reality in some hospital or hospice. The manner of his going would have made more sense if Jack had died of heart failure. That said, another great character has left the street. Get ready for another character purge before Christmas with the tram crash. |
10 Nov 10 - 06:50 AM (#3028192) Subject: RE: BS: OMG Jack Duckworth snuffs it ITV 8:30pm From: Arthur_itus I agree with you Arnie, but hey it's soapland and it's not a good idea to analyse it too much. I bet a few tears were shed from the scene and as such, they managed to get the right reaction :-) |
10 Nov 10 - 07:20 AM (#3028209) Subject: RE: BS: OMG Jack Duckworth snuffs it ITV 8:30pm From: GUEST,Patsy Unfortunately I missed it but I did see a trailer where Jack was releasing his pigeons. Too sad. I didn't realise that it was going to be cancer I agree it would have been better if it had been heart failure or a broken heart instead that would have made it all the more sadder. Emily Newgent/Bishop is an old timer I'm not sure if she was right at the very beginning but I remember her running a shop for Mr Swindley (Arthur Lowe) back then. |
10 Nov 10 - 11:35 AM (#3028352) Subject: RE: BS: OMG Jack Duckworth snuffs it ITV 8:30pm From: Steve Shaw She wasn't there right at the very beginning. Only Ken fits that bill. Didn't we have a train crash a few years ago? Surely not another. They have more disasters and murders in Corrie than you'd expect in the whole of New York City. And beautiful young women, come to think of it. Which I do. |

I wonder how many more can say they have seen Corrie from the start." Me! (Although I'm a lapsed heretic nowadays - gave up watching all soaps a few years ago). I can remember watching the first episode sitting on the settee with me mum and the dog. And Bill Podmore's mum and dad lived in our street when I was a kid. |

10 Nov 10 - 02:26 PM (#3028511) Subject: RE: BS: OMG Jack Duckworth snuffs it ITV 8:30pm From: Edthefolkie On a point of order M'lud, it's going to be a TRAM crash. Presumably the CGI Metrolink tram which goes over the viaduct will go even further over the viaduct and annihilate the Street, hopefully with a large and implausible explosion. They seem to like lethal streetcars on Corrie, Rita's nasty boyfriend was run over by a dirty great Blackpool double decker! |

Always did like a naughty boy rather than the usual psycho on Corrie these days. What puzzles me now is why the lack of cute men on Corrie and I know they are there in Manchester somewhere. |
