BS: Christmas shopping... what to get for...

Well, Kissmeass is upon us. But, last night I saw an advert on TV for a new thingywhotsit at Home O' The Hardware Man that is a stout knife which can be turned into shears for cutting veggies such as carrots. And it looks like it would be suitable for peeps with arthritis or diminished hand strength.

Kissmeass shopping half done in a jiffy.

Slicer Plus.

Any ideas what to get for that someone (not so) special? Any cool ideas? Novel ideas? Home made stuff?

A friend of mine was having a dispute with his brother so he gave his nephews, 7 and 9 framing hammers as a gift.

If it is for adults who have what they need, and have said again and again they don't need any more bath salts, then I would get something through a charity in their name..Heifer, Mercy Corps, etc...or a bunch of new socks and underwear they could give to a homeless shelter. mg

Every adult I know, including myself, has far too much already and is in the process of downsizing. The two most valuable gifts that anyone can give me are time spent visiting with me and/or time spent doing house and yard maintenance tasks that I can no longer do myself.

One son's last gift to me was a printout stating that he had "bought" $40 worth of condoms for aids prevention in an African country.

My "Christmas giving" consists of a visit to the blood donor clinic.

Cool stuff! It just makes sense. I don't have room for any more stuff, especially useless crap.

My family are all readers. I've been racking up points at www.paperbackswap.com and thought I might ask them each to tell me of a book they really would like. If I can find it on there, it won't cost me anything until someone request one of my books and I pay for that postage. we do not, any of us, have a lot to spend and we all pass books on, so wouldn't be adding to any clutter. I haven't decided for sure, but it's what I am thinking of, anyway.

My sisters made some cute window leak stuffers last year out a rolled up white towel with a wash cloth in the center, decorated with red and black felt to make it look like a snowman. Kids would enjoy making those if given the parts.:-)

I hope nobody send me anything more to put on my walls or shelves. We are getting rid of a lot and do not need any more.:->

We'll be canning a lot of peppers this year - and I'll be making a lot of my home made salsa.

Last year I bought my Dad a wooden mathematical puzzle to solve which was a hit problem was he solved in about quarter of an hour (not bad for 88). He liked it because it was different than the usual mug or socks. He can't drink now so that is out of the question, perhaps I'll get him puzzles again but something more challenging that will last more than a day hopefully. Not sure if he has the patience for jigsaws.

Hollowfox just sent me a link to a great web site, I think it's called gifts for geeks. All kinds of crazy stuff my sister will love.
Her fiancee', a lovely lady, has a huge family, most of them women, and they all wanted striped "pirate stockings" So I bougth a dozen pairs this summer. Now I just have to distribute them.

What makes it more difficult is when people say 'What ever you do don't get us anything this year' they know that you are still going to.

But we could break this cycle and get material goods to those who really need them..it is a win-win situation. Sometimes when people say don't get me anything they really mean it, and i figure even if they don't, they shouldn't say it so I just get a big heifer gift for all concerned. mg

I am also in the category of people who don't need more material things. Most of my friends and I make donations in each other's honors to charities. The person honored gets a notice from the charity that the donation was made and who made it; the charity gets the money; the donor gets a tax deduction.

I bake gingerbread for people. It does take up space in the house, but not for long. (Though my gingerbread will keep for about a month.)
