Tunbridge Wells Singaround Thur 25th Nov

Well the 4th Thursday of the month's coming around again, so it's time for the "Diddley Diddley" session at the High Brooms Tavern.

Although it leans towards folk, almost anything goes. Usually a great night, with a great mix of people, from stalwarts with decades of experience to newcomers doing their first public performances. Very relaxed and inclusive.

It's a "real" pub, Woodsie....not many of them left now!

It was a really great session...I counted 38 there at one point (people were coming and going so it may even have hit 40 at maximum) with 20 performers. A good variety of trad folk and more contemporary stuff. Several good tune sets and some old "standards" at the end that had the whole place playing and singing along.

Roy eventually prized us out of the bar at 11.55. He pretended to be annoyed at us keeping him up, but you could tell he was pleased with the evening. A bloke who'd been passing, heard the music and came in to see what was happening piped up at the end and said it was the best evening he'd had in years!

What with last month's dancing in the centre of the room and this month's fantastic atmosphere, this session is turning into one of the highlights of my month. Loved it.

Rob - that sounds great! These occasions can be so unpredictable, and it's always a pleasure when they start to gather momentum and get a bit lively. When I've finally finished MD'ing our Christmas panto (great fun but eating up huge amounts of time) in the new year, I'll get up there again and buy you that pint I owe you!

"Probably" coming down to Lewes, Al. I've left the decision to someone else....given 3 alternatives, with no "sales" talk or pressure, so there's a good but by no means certain chance that we'll be there :-)
