18 Nov 10 - 07:30 AM (#3035038) Subject: Bracknell Folk Festival 79/80 ish From: Raggytash I've been searching for a song for years that was performed at Bracknell Folk Festival in Southill Park many many years ago. Max has suggested I might try a different tack and see if I can find the performers and thus trace the song. I went to Bracknell in 79/80/81/82 and 86 and I think it was either in 80 or 81 I saw two female Canadian singers who performed a folk about a sailor being ravished by a woman and he ended up lamenting "mother I am quite undone". If anyone has old programmes for Bracknell for this period perhaps the two singers can be found and I will have another avenue to follow. The people I met and remember for the festivals are such as Leadfingers, Dave & Pearl Houlden, Len and Barbara Berry. I stayed with Nigel & Christine Stephenson at the time and "Butch" worked at least one of the bars, I also recall the "Wanks" Security man with his empty leash ! Any help would be very much appreciated Cheers Raggy |

I realise it's later than the one you need, but it might be worth a follow-up, possibly with Ian Anderson either here or via fRoots Link to the mudcat discussion Here Pete |

19 Nov 10 - 02:26 PM (#3036128) Subject: RE: Bracknell Folk Festival 79/80 ish From: Herga Kitty I wonder if Bob Berry or Sylvia Watts might know.... Bob Berry has occasionally posted here as jesterbob (and as a member), otherwise can be reached via the Chippenham festival website . Sylvia (who ran the Bracknell folk club in the cellar at South Hill Park but is now living in Wiltshire, I think) was booked at Chippenham this year, so Bob should have contact info. Kitty |

29 Sep 13 - 01:28 PM (#3562525) Subject: RE: Bracknell Folk Festival 79/80 ish From: GUEST It might have been Sara Gray & Ellie Ellis. I recall hearing them at Swindon Folk club around 1983, a couple of years or so after I had left Bracknell. I'm pretty sure that they were Canadian and they might have been touring the UK in the years before or after. |

30 Sep 13 - 02:01 PM (#3562907) Subject: RE: Bracknell Folk Festival 79/80 ish From: GUEST I'm the 'GUEST' who suggested Sara Gray and Ellie Ellis . . . I'm pretty sure that the names are/were spelled as I have spelled them, because one or two references appear on Google, in particular this: http://www.musicscotland.com/cd/Flash-Company-25-Years-Fellside.html (sorry, doesn't seem to have displayed as clickable) which mentions a track by Sara Gray and Ellie Ellis entitled 'Going To the West / Peach Bottom Creek'. Anyway, if I have helped at all you're very welcome. I'm no longer a regular folk club attendee but stumbled across this site while looking up a few references after seeing BBC4's program about Nic Jones last Friday. It's funny what sticks in one's mind after thirty or so years :-) Best Wishes, Phil W |

30 Sep 13 - 02:10 PM (#3562913) Subject: RE: Bracknell Folk Festival 79/80 ish From: GUEST Sorry, me again . . . looking at the saragrey.net link it must have been Sara Grey, rather than Sara Gray. ALso it looks that she and Ellie Ellis made three records, namely A Breath of Fresh Air, Making the Air Resound and You Gave Me A Song.
