ALSO, it's Kev from Brandywine Music (click HERE) Brandywine Music (Me and my two colleagues) are music promoters. We promote live music events (all styles and genres) in and around Kent and are looking to expand in the New Year. As part of our expansion, we are holding our "Grand Day Out" event on Saturday 12th February 2011. It is a Charity event – any collected monies go towards The Stag Theatre's fund for a new PA system/Help for Heroes/and a Local Hospice. We have four Rock Bands in The Stag Theatre during the afternoon (The Diarys, The Outcast Band, The Geoff Everett Band, and Blackwater). We have seven folk/acoustic bands in The Plaza (underneath the main theatre in the afternoon) - (Ty Watling & Ayisha, No Worries, Skinners Rats, Hot Rats, Don Thompson and Ty & Ayisha again). A beer festival. A wine tasting afternoon . Street entertainers. Fire juggling. A chance to Fire Walk. Over ten Morris Dancing sides have been invited (two have confirmed at present, but WE WILL HAVE MORE!!!) ALL OF THIS IS FREEE!!!! There are two pubs of special note in the town (five pubs in total) - The Chequers and The Anchor - both would be VERY welcoming of any folkies that wanted to start/run a session for all/some of the day/evening!!! Contributions in the collecting bucket will be greatly appreciated. PLUS! PLUS!!! PLUS, PLUS, in the evening, at £20 per ticket, we have THE BLOCKHEADS as in, Ian Dury and The Blockheads!!!! You could "mix'n'match" - you could do a bit of singinging/playing - watch a bit of the numerous Morris Dancing sides (and break dancing group) - watch and listen to some or all of the FREE live music - visit the beer festival AND then catch The Blockheads in the evening!!! There is a posibility of having a session or two in either of the decent pubs, The Anchor or The Chequers. I'll have a word with them and see which one would be better. After that, then yes, you running a session for any intersted folkies would be GREAT. The whole idea is that there is a whole variety of music styles and entertainment for people to choose from - LIVE, FREE Rocks acts, LIVE, FREE Acoustic acts, LIVE, FREE folk session, LIVE, FREE Morris Dancing - you get the idea!!!! Collections at ALL events. THEN - the pay to see gig with The Blockheads in the evening!! Lots of real ales in the Beer Festival in The Plaza (where the acoustic music will be). Four large car parks in sevenoaks (one behind the main venue, three within 5-10 mins walk PLUS side streets. Sevenoaks train station is a 20 minute walk (up hill!!) to the venue. Bus from the station is evry half hour but stops at ridiculous o'clock at night. Best taxi firm in the area is Beeline Taxis, but there is also a taxi firm in the train station itself. Spread the word Flora :-) Kev |

Confirmed for Morris Dancing are Gong Scourers, Boughton Monchelsea and Invicta (possible from Bishop Gundulf's and Dead Horse). Confirmed, a fantastic Break Dancing group from a school in Ashford. All of the bands are confirmed. The Singaround session is now confirmed in The Chequers, opposite the Stag Theatre - also confirmed, John Barden and Don Thompson will be sharing the running of said session. I tried it on mine and it seemed to work ok - but - go with your link as it obviously works!!! Sue, there is a car park behind the Stag. It WILL be busy on the day - it's always busy on a NORMAL DAY!! I'll put a map on the "A Grand Day Out" page on our www.brandywinemusic.co.uk on Saturday. The HUGE car park is outside the Sports Centre. 5 mins walk for most of us, but I know you will take it a little slower, so 10 to 15 if that is the only place you can park. The pub where the sing-a-round is, does NOT have a car park - it is LITERALLY on the junction of The High Street AND London Road (all roads lead OUT of Sevenoaks to Tonbridge!!!) In ORDER of likelyhood of parking, I would say 1) the one by the sports centre, 2) the one behind The Stag and 3) Blighs Meadow (behind the main drag of shops). If none of these, try the road called South Park - not at the top by the post office - just keep driving down until you find a space. You can park near the Train Station and then walk up (10-15 mins). At end of the day, much easier to walk back down!!!! During the day, parking will be "fun!!" - later on (6pm ish) parking will improve, and one of you should be able to move cars up to the car park behind The Stag - for session or for The Blockheads. Sevenoaks may be "an area of outstanding natural property prices" (Dilligaf's description of where I live!!), but the parking is "not as good as it could be!!" - suck it and see folks - best I can offer. SO PLEASED to see that there is interest in this one lately!!! Thought that we'd produced "a pup!!". Hoff, if he needs a hand in the second session, or needs someone to take it on, are you up for it??? Rachel, yes, turn right when you get out of the station. Stand at the traffic lights and you will see a chip shop. The bus stops RIGHT THERE and will take you into the centre of town. If you're feeling fit, the walk will take you about 15 mins - it is steep to start with and then gets easier when you pass the SECOND chip shop (on the right). If you have Hettie's number, give her a call. I suggested the day to her, but have not heard back. You could split the petrol costs and have someone to chat to there and back. Just a thought. Can't wait for Saturday!!! I THINK that we have all the bases covered, but I am panicking now that we have forgotten something!!! |

Nice pub although the beer prices were eyewatering - and Royston was simply gobsmacked (being used to London) to be told "Sorry we've stopped doing food" when trying to get a sandwich at maybe 4 pm - er how many people other than Basil Fawlty find it too demanding to put stuff between slices of bread? But the landlady was otherwise pleasant and helpful and the stone floor made good acoustics. Generally the locals were accommodating although by about 1730 the wall of background noise (including, at times, from some who should have known better but were simply shouting to converse barely feet from a singer or player) made singing unrewarding. Young Ben Little just keeps improving. Some guitar-maker really ought to give him a killer guitar just to get his endorsement. By 1800 I was faded, having stressed myself out chasing around in the morning getting bits done on a timescale. I hope the Anchor was good. |

Wholeheartedly agree Richard with regard to Ben Little - he deserves a much better guitar and it would do a maker no harm at all in using him as a show-piece. We went on until 19:30 at the Anchor - nice pub and great landlord and Royston was brilliant but I was off to see 'The Blockheads' so I don't know how it went after that. I think with a day like that it may be better to just do a mid-day to 7 o'clock in just the one pub, unless of course people want to carry on as they please. The Blockheads - absolutely brilliant and as tight as ever. A really stunning set and all in all a superb day. I hope the supported charities did well and well done to Brandywine Music for putting on such a Grand Day Out. John Barden |

Result: split head, and deep cuts to both arms, and surgery to remove large shard of glass this afternoon (Monday) from left arm. More news when he returns to the joy of txt. |

Looking at it logically over a couple of days (and I have had A LOT of time im my bed to think it through), I don't think I fell down the stairs, I think I tripped UP them, slipped, over-compensated, collided with the glass picture frame and then the next thing that I remember is sitting on my bed spurting lots of red stuff!!! Dilligaf is the star of all this, as she wrapped towels round both arms and called the ambulance, kept calm and was just BRILLIANT!!! Thankyou Val!!!xx Back to the saga - off to casulaty in Farnborough. 12 out of 10 to the paramedics for the speed that they arrived and how they looked after me. I've never been in an ambulance before!! I kept apologising to the paramedic for bleeding so much on in her cleam ambulance. Casualty - again, 12 out of 10 for repairing me. 11 stitches to the right arm, 5 to the left BEFORE they then found, via a second series of xrays, a shard of glass about 5 inches long and an inch wide!!! Up to ward my son said the doctor!!!!! Sunday - well you know what I going to say - not much chance of anything happening!! Monday - wait, wait, wait and wait some more. Off down to have it removed late afternoon. Back early evening to find Dilligaf sitting by the window knitting wolley hats :-) Let out Tuesday afternoon (after being discharged at 8.40am!!) with a nice green carrier bag of sweeties (LOTS OF THEM!!) - managed to have a look at left arm whilst it was re-dressed - WOW!!! 7 stitches on top, 7 stitches underneath, so GRAND total is 25 plus a very nice scar on my forehead, bruises and generally feeling like a prat - a LUCKY prat!!! Feeling VERY sore this afternoon. Bandaged up like Mr Atlas on my arms!! Needless to say, our Grand Day Out on Saturday, seems a bloody long time ago. Didn't even have the luxury of waking up on Sunday luntime thinking "that was bloody good fun!!". At least I woke up!!! SO, many thanks to all of you who attended, the morris sides, The Bard and Jan, Hoff, Fisheye and FMON, Naughty Forty, Royston, TDL with Ben and several others, plus all who may have seen the event advertised, attended, but have not posted. THANKYOU ALL!!!! Only briefly chatted with my colleague, Keith, but we will let you know how much money was finally raised on the day as soon as possible.
