Folk Day at The Plough in Hitchen 02-Jul-2011

24 Nov 10 - 10:14 AM (#3039502)
Subject: Hitchin: The Plough Folk Day: 02/07/2011
From: buddhuu

I am organising a Folk / Unplugged music day at The Plough, Ley Green, Hitchin, Herts, SG4 8LA.

Current target date is 2nd July 2011. This date is to be confirmed.
NB: All details are, at this stage, subject to change.

I'm looking for prospective performers - solo, duo, bands - and an audience! Anyone interested please contact me by email at rickcadger@gmail.com, or by Mudcat PM, or by posting in this thread.

I will post updates as arrangements become clearer.

Tentative details as follows:

PloughFolk 2011

11am - 11pm, Sat 2nd July 2011

The Plough is a small, traditional country pub with a history of involvement with music. Although the pub itself is small, it has a very large garden, a substantial car park and a large paved patio area which includes a permanent, raised, paved performance stage with built-in power. The Patio is equipped with a marquee to provide audiences with shelter during inclement weather. The stage area can also be covered against rain.

PloughFolk is a charity event. No fees paid. All performances and stewarding on a volunteer basis.

To facilitate quick turnaround between performances, and to minimise waiting times for players and audience, the following conditions will apply:

  • Acoustic instruments only (with/without pickups). Exceptions, for electric bass or keyboards, if made at all, will be made at the organiser's reluctant discretion

  • No backline amplification, only PA

  • No full drum kits

The idea is walk on/walk off with no delays due to setting up of complicated gear

It is hoped to make this an annual event if successful.

The Venue and event

  • Covered stage area

  • Covered, paved audience area

  • Ample parking

  • Large garden

  • 2 Bars

  • Food

  • Craft displays

  • Morris dancing

More info to follow as details are clarified.

Forgot to say, we intend that this will be a FREE event: no charge for admission.

Funds for charity will be raised from voluntary donations.

The beneficiary charity/ies have yet to be decided. The pub's house charity is RNLI so probably at least a token donation will go to them.
