There are others like him. LP's are still coming out, but in a trickle. My Sunday paper had an article about it some months ago. There are people who eagerly await each new arrival. |

No, I don't think I do. I'm slowly and tediously turning about 100 of mine into CDs. Playable as CDs, but just one file on each. |

Horses for courses. LPs are still being produced by musicians in the rock industry - alongside CD albums. Early digital mastering and re-mastering was often very brittle and lacked the warmth and ambience of vinyl recording, but that's improved over the years. One thing's for sure. The longevity of CDs is still open to some question, and I've had one or two fail. The longevity of vinyl, as long as it's cared for, is not. A friend of mine sold all his LPs when CDs appeared on the market - and bought the same titles on CD! I kept all mine, and a great deal of the folk stuff on the Topic, Transatlantic and Leader/Trailer labels - in decent condition - is worth quite a few quid. It's worth pointing out that the digital industry pundits have also been predicting the death of the book for many years - they're still around... |

Much easier to look after and keep in order - if I can't find an LP it's probably a few places away from where it should be in the rack, unlike CDs which could be anywhere and have jewel cases which constantly need replaced. |

Gave up smoking to buy that turntable and never smoked since. Still works fine with massive KEF speakers. |

The problem is that much of my vinyl, has been played past being listenable...I mean we're talking 'bout some dating to early 1950s, here, and, I was none to gentle sometimes. But those that are clean are gems that I prefer to the same material digitized. They have an ambiance and warmth, but not the crystal clarity of CDs; thats a good trade-off for me. I listen on a Sansui 35/35 watt receiver that's over 30 years old, and a Luxman TT w/ Grado cartridge and stylus. Owing to lack of space, the speakers are not what they should be...but then, neither are my ears |

Our new TV wouldn't fit into our cabinet.We were wondering what we could store in it when I suddenly remembered the LPs in the loft.We rescued them and had great fun listening to them again . It was quite a shock to discover that we preferred the sound of the LPs to the CDs. Much more depth and warmth somehow,and that long forgotten "click" on certain tracks was quite reassuring! |
