Can anyone send me the lyric for "Old Rattler" by Lead Belly? I'm not a native English speaker, and that song (accent) is beyond my... I just can't understand what he's singing (saying)... I asked my friends here in NYC but they don't understand it either. Than

Hi, Loisida - Click here for a previous thread on the song, and I think you'll get the lyrics you're looking for.

Here's a flatweeding (any work done with a hoe) version that should be near what Leadbelly would've sung or hear while on a work gang.

Ol Rattler was the Walker's dog
Here Rattler here
He'd swim the Braz' or walk a log
Here Rattler here

Ol Rattler come tipping through the morning dew
Here Rattler here
Captain's mad & the sargent too
Here Rattler here

Ol Rattler here's a marrowbone
You can eat it you can leave it lone

I don't want no marrowbone
I just want the man that's long gone

Ol Rattler turned round & round
He's on the man that's long gone

Ol Rattler bit him on the heel
You otta hear that man squeal

Here Ol Rattler
Here Ol Rattler

I only remember only one verse or chorus, maybe, that went like this:

Rattler was a blind ole dog, as blind as he could be, but every night at suppertime, I believe that dog could see.

Here Rattler, here here
Here Rattler here
Call The Rattler from the barn, here Rattler here.

That's all I can remember. Do you know the song?

Thanks,
Sue
