Tech: IE Connection Problems With PayPal

From: Joe Offer

I set up a PayPal account for donations for the nonprofit where I do volunteer work, and it all seemed to work very well. Then, yesterday, I got a complaint. The donor got a "session timed out" message, and so did our social worker.
I used Google Chrome to make a donation today, and it worked perfectly. Then I tried 32-bit and 64-bit Internet Explorer, and got this message:
Sorry — your last action could not be completed
If you were making a purchase or sending money, we recommend that you check both your PayPal account and your email for a transaction confirmation after 30 minutes.

If you came to this page from another website, please return to that site (don't use your browser's Back button) and restart your activity.

If you came from PayPal's website, click the PayPal logo in the upper-left corner to return to our home page and restart your activity. You might have to log in again.

The process works perfectly with Firefox, Google Chrome, and Safari.
Any tips?

Had the same difficulty yesterday while trying to send a bit of cash to a fellow in the US. Got a message from PayPal that it was sent, and today a message on Mudcat saying it was rec`d. Wish I could help more than that, Joe. BTW, I was using Google Chrome. Go figure.

I went through the chicanery of PayPal's customer support phone center. They couldn't find a problem with the connection using Internet Explorer, but I still can't get in at all with IE. They suggested updating Java and clearing cache and cookies, and I did all that. I also set the security settings way lower than I usually have them.

If you'd like to try, send me a personal message or e-mail and I'll send you the URL for our Website.

The problem I encounter is when I hit the YELLOW "donate" button on the Wellspring donation page. I have a donation button on the Wellspring home page that leads to the donation page, and that donation page has a yellow PayPal "donate" button. And it works perfectly with Safari, Google Chrome, and Firefox.

I've run out of ideas, and now I have to take a break and try to fix my college student's car, and then stack firewood. How would I cope with all this if I weren't retired, if I had to actually work for a living?

That looks like the same message I got.

Joe, how bout if you fix the car while the college student stacks the firewood?

Do you suppose that with so many people Christmas shopping that Paypall and IE are jammed? This would be rather like YouTube, which slows down in the evenings, when the kids are all watching.

Well, it's the week before final exams and his university application was due this week, so I doubt I'll get much work out of the college student. My buddy Ralph the Shih Tzu and I checked out the car and found nothing wrong - we think it's just the college student's paranoia because he is 2,000 miles late on taking his car in for service. Said stepson claims the car pulls to the left, but Ralph and I could drive and brake without our paws on the steering wheel, even on the freeway.

And the PayPal problem continues, so I guess I'll eat lunch and stack firewood....

PayPal, by the way, charges a fairly reasonable fee for donations to nonprofits. They charged 85 cents to process my $25 donation this morning, and $4.70 for somebody's $200 donation the other day. -Joe-

It works for me outside your frameset. Framesets are used to fool people, so it might be a paypal safety measure. If you go directly to it works in IE.

Yes, I am finding that PayPal does in fact frown upon frames. https://www.x.com/search.jspa?peopleEnabled=true&userID=&containerType=&containe

Create a donate page that is outside the frame and you'll be fine.

Well, Max is right. When I display the donation page outside frames, the PayPal connection works. So, I thought I could just add target="new" to the links on our Website's main page, and all would be ducky.
Or so I thought.

Trouble is, the target=new doesn't work on our Website. The Website always displays a header page and a navigation page on the top of the screen, and then the other pages display in frames below the header and navigation bar. I take it either the navigation bar or the header has some code that prevents use of target=new.

If you'd like to take a look and see if you can help. e-mail me or send me a PM, and I'll send you the URL for the Website in the morning.

Thanks.
