Anybody know of any folk events in Sweden around the summer solstice next year?

Is there a Swedish folk directory that covers this sort of thing?

there will always be something happening at Skansen http://www.skansen.se/ but it will probably be quite touristy

this organization is the central one for music, dance, crafts and costume http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Svenska_Folkdansringen

There is a competition for the "National Folk Musician" of Sweden conducted in a different place each year. The entrants are awarded the Zorn Medal if the judges agree that they play Swedish music in the traditional way. this event is a gathering of the best musicians in Sweden. The highest honor is http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Riksspelman reserved for those who win the silver or gold medal and the title of Riksspelman, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Zorn_Badge

as near as I can tell, this Zornmärkesuppspelningar
event will take place in Örebro on June 27 next year 2011-06-27.

i could look for more, but have not seen a response that
the previous posts have been seen, so will not research more.

i do have a friend who is a tour guide in Sweden and a fiddler
who knows when and where music events are scheduled. I would
find out more from him if you want--esp. if you have specific
dates or provinces you are looking for.

Yes, I've seen your posts - thinking of going there around the middle of June for my gf's birthday, starting in Stockholm, going up past the Arctic Circle and back. We'd both like to see something at the Drottningholm opera house, but their schedule for next year isn't available yet. I have a fiddler friend in Dalarna I'd like to look up as well.

If you will be at Cheltenham this year Jan will be there.

We have our, "Dance Out" day on the 5th. June. If you're up for that.

mind you this calender could be of help too.

PM me for more info

the nyckelharpa was brought into popularity by Eric Sahlström and here is his institute of music and dance -- with activities, seminars, etc.
