To all Monday Night Football fans of the Golden Era of Cosell, Frank Gifford, and Meredith, this is sad news indeed. I suppose some of us should sing "Turn out the lights, the party's over." His Texas slant, humor, and insights into the game more or less defined the role of Color Commentator for all who came after. A heck of a QB in his day, too. |

Except for one at the moment that really doesn't seem that insightful. I get tired of his mistakes and sometimes inane commentary. But, the rise in my blood pressure when he messes up is part of my exercise regimen. |

I often napped during play, but I woke up during their interplay. Both knowledgeable and entertaining. I agree, the current broadcasters are dull and often wrong; now I nap during the whole evening. |

That was a strong point for the original group...there was no confusing Don with Howard, or either one with Frank. I do think Michaels is a decent play-by-play man, and Grudin has some pretty good insights, but there ain't much chemistry there. |

08 Dec 10 - 02:36 PM (#3049028) Subject: RE: BS: 'Dandy' Don Meredith Dies From: gnu I enjoyed Dennis Miller. His knowledge of the game, it's history in regard to players, stats and records, his insight, and his humour left everyone else in the dust. Perhaps that is why he got canned... making the good old boys look bad. |
