Royal Bank of Scotland 'scam'

Today, I have received an E-mail purporting to originate from RBS ( Royal Bank of Scotland, so also Halifax by extension), apologising for some disruption to customers' ability to access their accounts "on line" , and asking for an update of personal information, account numbers, etc . Not that I would EVER disclose anything like that anyway, but the way in which the E-mail is constructed, laid out, graphics, etc., is quite plausible, except for the way that they refer, in capital letters, to my account "STAUTS" ,instead of "STATUS" !! But ,beware !!

Banks will never ever ask for such information by e-mail fullstop.

I get half a dozen of these a day. Just dump them in the spam bin.

I'm always amazed at the way in which spammers and hoaxers are able to accurately imitate authentic e-docs, but then give away the game by a simple misspelling or grammatical error.

RBS have never been gentlemen (a gentleman rarely trumpets his status) and in the light of what I DO know about their dirty tricks I idly wonder how long it will be before they set up a plausibly deniable subsidiary to pull this very trick...

But of course, if you get a log-in request like that, you trot off to the real site and log in there if at all.

Fred Goodwin's disgrace is now complete. They have removed his knighthood.

The award was cancelled and annulled by the Queen after a key committee found the ex-banker had brought the honours system into disrepute.

Mr Goodwin received his knighthood for services to banking under the Labour government, before leading RBS to the brink of collapse in 2008.

Thanks for the heads-up, bubblyrat. There will always be people who need to be warned about things like this.

And it was The Bank of Scotland who took over The Halifax, not The Royal Bank of Scotland.

OK, that's one bad apple - but what about getting our money back from all the bondholders who were reckless with their casino banking?

I sometimes wonder how, with their financial problems, they can afford to continue in the 'vanity publishing' industry.
Printing & circulating your own bank notes may be a form of advertising, but cheap it ain't!

The 2 top men at RBS have now declined to collect their bonus entitlements, how fecking good of them, they've already amassed more money than they could spend in 2 lifetimes, how much do they want for fecks sake ? the greed of these people knows no bounds.
